In the 1970s, seekers from Europe and America climbed a narrow staircase in a crowded Bombay neighbourhood to sit with an old man in a tiny room.
He had no ashram, no organisation and no credentials.
For most of his life, he had sold cheap cigarettes.
His name was Maruti Kambli. He was born in 1897, grew up in a village, and moved to Bombay as a young man to support his family after his father died.
He started as a junior clerk. Then he opened a small shop selling bidis, the cheap hand-rolled cigarettes of Indiaâs working poor. In time he owned eight of them. He married and had four children.
Nothing about him looked spiritual..
In 1933, a friend took him to meet a teacher named Siddharameshwar Maharaj.
The teacher gave him one instruction. You are not what you take yourself to be. Find out what you are. Stay with the simple sense of "I AM," and give your attention to nothing else.
Most people would have nodded and gone home.
Maruti did exactly what he was told.
Between customers, while counting money, while walking home, he kept returning to that bare feeling of being.
Not "I am a shopkeeper."
Not "I am a father."
Just "I am."
Three years later, his teacher died.
In 1937, Maruti left Bombay and wandered across India for about eight months. On the journey home, something in him settled for good. As he later put it, nothing was wrong anymore.
But here is the part almost nobody knows.
He went back to the shop.
He kept selling cigarettes for almost thirty more years.
He lost his wife, and later a daughter. He kept going to work, and he kept answering anyone who climbed up to his little room with a question.
The world would come to know him as:
Nisargadatta Maharaj.
In 1973, a Polish-born seeker named Maurice Frydman translated his talks into English. The major publishers turned the book down, so a small Indian press printed it instead.
It was called I Am That. Today it is considered one of the great classics of non-duality.
And the people who climbed his stairs got the same answer the shopkeeper got in 1933.
Ask him about chakras, past lives or visions, and he would wave it away and turn you back to the one who was asking.
Think about what that means.
One of the clearest teachers of the 20th century never lived in a cave. He never wore robes. He never left his street. The instruction that changed his life fit between two customers.
Most of us are waiting for the right conditions.

Cookâs reconstruction places both the earlier polar age and the later catastrophes on a single calendar. The polar configuration ends in 3147 BC. Everything after that belongs to the aftermath, not to the Golden Age itself.
In 2349 BC a large electrical discharge from Venus arrives. The Absu (Earthâs equatorial rings) falls, the Moon appears in its present form, and the length of the year changes.
In 1492 BC Cook keeps an Exodus / Typhon event. Between 806 and 687 BC Mars makes nine close approaches. Mercury flares in 686. An axial shift and the Phaethon event close the sequence in 685.
In Cookâs mechanics the year is not 365 days from the beginning. It runs at 240 days, then 260 days, before reaching the length we count today. These figures are his own. What is important from him is the shared claim with Velikovsky, that after Saturn had gone, Venus and Mars came near the Earth.
Talbottâs visual sequence already ends in disorder. A usurper appears, thunderbolts strike, and the ordered court is scattered.
Cochraneâs books supply the detailed record of the two bodies that leave their places on Saturnâs disc and then fight in the open sky.
He does not treat Athena and Nergal as mere seasonal figures. Venus appears as queen, morning star, hairy star, bringer of fire, and a recent prodigy. Mars appears as the scarred warrior, the child who grows dangerous.
The Kronos papers written with Talbott already stated the distinction that a cometary Venus belongs to a later phase. Polar Saturn is not a comet. The later file is what happens when the inner stack breaks apart and the remaining bodies can still see and approach one another.
De Graziaâs Iron Age of Mars is a neighbouring name for the last of those encounters. It is not this theoryâs polar configuration. It is further testimony that the first millennium BC was not a quiet Newtonian interval.

The cargo ship CONTSHIP JET, owned by an Israeli company and carrying 421 containers of lithium-ion batteries, chemicals, acids, and other substances, sank.
Currently, Russia is the main suspect in the incident, but there is no evidence to support this claim.
This is the fifth ship to be attacked in Bulgarian waters this month.

Reform UK deputy leader Richard Tice went on a trip to âthe Gaza front lineâ in September 2025 funded by Reform Friends of Israel, where he concluded that the Gaza famine was a âblatant lieâ.

Leaked Israeli documents reveal how Benjamin Netanyahu's government waged a secret campaign to stop boycotts of Israel in Britain.
That included a "sensitive" meeting with Michael Gove -- when he was justice secretary in 2015 -- about countering the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions movement.
Israelâs lobbying campaign was led by its justice minister Ayelet Shaked, who met Gove in London in November 2015.
Shaked, from the far-right Jewish Home party, was alarmed by a European Commission plan to label goods produced on illegally occupied Palestinian land as originating from an âIsraeli settlementâ.
The issue was consequently high on Shakedâs agenda, with the Israeli government fearing that the labels would help pro-Palestine boycott campaigns.
Gove âenjoyedâ meeting Shaked and specifically requested âmore informationâ from the Israeli embassy on the labelling issue, the leaked emails show.
Israelâs foreign ministry then arranged for an analysis to be prepared for Gove âas soon as possibleâ on the imminent EU measures.

As I'd oversee the creation not destruction of thousands of banks, I'd deliver double-digit economic growth.
The ECB should give the top job to Richard Werner (@scientificecon), the most consequential economist on the planet since Milton Friedman.
This wonât happen of course because they arenât serious about fixing their horrendous economic problems.

Mars still looks wounded. Its crust is scarred by vast canyons, chaotic terrain, has a clear hemispheric difference, and evidence of catastrophe on a scale that preserved, rather than erased, the record of violent events.
Ancient observers treated the sky itself as a battlefield. Wars between Ares and Athena, between the warrior planet and the morning star, between dragon and thunderbolt, recorded across cultures that had no reason to invent the same sequence of celestial combat.
And the ground and the calendar jumped inside literate time. Calendar reforms, intercalation crises, reports of the sun standing still or reversing, and the abrupt end of Bronze Age centres fall within the centuries Velikovsky, Cook, and de Grazia assigned to the final Mars approaches.
These are not pre-literate myths projected backwards. They are disruptions recorded by societies that already kept written records, built cities, and expected the heavens to behave.
The quiet-disc model can, of course, reassign each item. Venus heat to a runaway greenhouse, Martian scars to ancient climate and impacts billions of years ago, the war myths to seasonal allegory or political propaganda, the calendar shifts to administrative convenience.
The cumulative cost is high. Each reassignment is local and post hoc. We read the same abundance as successive chapters of a single recent history in which the inner planets, once freed from the polar order, continued to approach Earth until the present celestial regime was finally established.
The Saturnian age explains the founding sky. The later stations of Venus and Mars explain why that sky, once lost, was followed by centuries of terror rather than immediate peace.

Clear light (Tibetan âod gsal / ösel; Sanskrit prabhÄsvara) is the fundamental innate nature of the mindâthe subtlest level of consciousness. It is empty of inherent existence yet naturally luminous (cognizant, clear, and aware). It is the ground (gzhi) of all experience and the ever-present potential for Buddhahood in every sentient being.
A classic statement from the Eight Thousand Verse PrajñÄpÄramitÄ puts it this way: âThe mind is devoid of mind, for the nature of mind is clear light.â It is not literal physical light, nor a produced meditative state. It is a metaphor for the mindâs unobstructed, transparent, knowing qualityâlike open space that is simultaneously empty and aware. In Dzogchen it is closely related to rigpa (pure awareness). Teachers distinguish the âmotherâ clear light (the ground or basic luminosity) from the âchildâ clear light (the luminosity recognized on the path or in meditation). When the two meet and are recognized (especially at death), liberation is possible.
Has clear light itself ever moved?
âšNo. It is uncompoundedânot created by causes and conditions. It is timeless and free of transition or change. Longchenpa and other Dzogchen masters describe the ground as present from the beginning, beyond any basis that depends on samsara, and without shift across the three times. Its essential nature does not arise, cease, come, or go. In Mahamudra language, the nature is the stillness that never moves; movement is only the play of thoughts and appearances arising within it.
Apparent motion
âšAll apparent motionâthoughts, emotions, sense experiences, samsara, and nirvanaâappears as the spontaneous expression, display, or radiance of clear light from within its own matrix (the ground). Nothing ever leaves it. Appearances arise within clear light, remain within it, and dissolve back into it, like clouds in the sky or reflections in a mirror. The clear light itself is unaffected: it neither becomes the appearances nor is altered by them. This is the classic non-dual view shared by Dzogchen and Mahamudra: everything is the play of the empty-and-luminous nature, which itself remains unmoving and unchanging.
In short: clear light is the unmoving ground; all motion is its spontaneous expression.

I hold that space cannot be curved, for the simple reason that it can have no properties. It might as well be said that God has properties. He has not, but only attributes and these are of our own making. Of properties we can only speak when dealing with matter filling the space.
To say that in the presence of large bodies space becomes curved is equivalent to stating that something can act upon nothing. I, for one, refuse to subscribe to such a view.
