Congratulations to Christine Lagarde on her extraordinary leadership of the European Central Bank. It has been my pleasure working with her through some of the most consequential moments of the past two decades.
She has been a tower of strength and humanity in every role she has held. I know her service will continue long into the future.
And while she has more than earned the much-needed break she deserves, I know that many, myself included, will continue to turn to her for advice and counsel.
I have just informed my colleagues that I will step down as @ECB President on 7 February 2027.
It has been a source of great pride to serve this institution.
I thank all of those who have supported me on this journey over the past seven years.

Christianity came to Britain from the Middle East during the Roman occupation.
Britain is not culturally homogeneous. There have been different dialects, traditions and pastimes in neighbouring towns, let alone across different counties and nations on this island for centuries. To argue that Wales, Kent and Middlesbrough don't have their own cultures is demonstrably absurd.

The Trump Administration just weakened rules designed to keep dangerous methane gas from leaking out of oil and gas wells and into our communities, making it easier for bad actors to take advantage of our rural communities.
Here in Pennsylvania, we know that you don’t have to choose between creating energy jobs and protecting our environment.
We’ve plugged 500 abandoned oil and gas wells — more than the previous 12 years combined — and we’re strengthening our standards to ensure companies follow the law and protect Pennsylvanians’ health.
I’m prepared to fight back on this reckless move — and in the meantime, no matter what the Trump Administration does, we’ll keep working to plug these dangerous wells, reduce methane pollution, and protect Pennsylvanians’ clean air and pure water.
