BREAKING: Big 5 men’s basketball schools to move forward with round-robin format without Villanova in 2027-28, from @Jeff_Neiburg in @phillysport With the current format nearing the end of its contract, Villanova was not interested in keeping with the status quo. The one-day Big 5 Classic tripleheader could still live on. inquirer.com/college-sports/…

I was at senior week in OCMD in June 2017 days after graduating high school, sweating a long shot PredictIt bet on a Democratic candidate in a GA-6 runoff - Jon Ossoff (he lost close to Karen Handel) Had incredible fun on election nights freelancing with @DecisionDeskHQ from 2016-22 Did a Steve Kornacki cosplay at @CitrusTVNews in college in 2020 in a different world, I’m one of those political geography nerds who post maps all day. there’s also a world where i went into meteorology (high school friends know all too much about this one)

It’s really random how I ended up at Action and eventually The Ringer I had spent most of my on campus time at Syracuse either writing @dailyorange broadcasting @CitrusTVNews, playing FIFA, or drinking at bars with friends Once I went abroad to London in January 2020 (tough timing) I realized I had nothing to do with my extra time after class My friend @Gill_Gross had interned with this sports betting media startup that sounded kinda cool. I emailed Action, and got offered a chance to do some soccer writing Became a full time freelancer writing. We started doing podcasts during Euro 2021 when I graduated college. Then I got to do baseball and later NFL. we made some money along the way, which certainly didn’t hurt. but we also had fun nerding out. wondergoal forever! then one day you get a DM from Bill, and a few years later you are naively passing on stew from dave chang when i graduated college, i didn’t really know exactly what i wanted (who does?) still don’t really know, but I think about the counterfactuals where I went to work in DC, in politics, in news, etc, and that all sounds way less fun tbh

Andrew is always thoughtful about markets, trading, morals, and life great read!
I love markets, but there's a bigger world to understand. I wrote about my mixed feelings on the prediction market boom, why I'm widening my focus, and the rabbit holes I'm excited to explore next. whirligigbear.substack.com/p…

the pollsters using an absurd LV screen to herd against a potential democratic bias that they’re afraid of happening again is quite the gimmick
Fox News (Beacon/Shaw) poll | 10/15-10/19 LV Texas statewide races 2026 (LV) US Senate 🟥Ken Paxton 49% [no change] 🟦James Talarico 49% [-2] — (RV) 🟦James Talarico +6 [52-46] —— Texas Governor 🟥Greg Abbott 52% (incumbent) [no change] 🟦Gina Hinojosa 47% [no change] — (RV) 🟥Greg Abbott +1 [50-49] (Change from | 9/24-9/28 LV) Link to poll: foxnews.com/politics/fox-new…

Very fun working on this with my brother @probaaron. After a year focused on prediction markets, I'm widening the scope of what I'm working on to more general science and decision-making. We built Kalshinomics at an interesting time in AI coding tools. Claude Code was relatively new, and while it could write a few functions, it would quickly turn into slop if you unleashed it. I actually had to learn the underlying systems. I suspect now it'd get closer to one-shotting much of it. Really enjoyed the people I met along the way and the opportunity to teach people about markets. Especially appreciated the journalists who took the time to really understand the space and communicate it clearly. Thanks to everyone who followed along!

explosive pass rate, weeks 1-6 2025 seahawks: 19.9% (2nd) 2026 seahawks: 13.1% (16th) a lot of this difference is on third downs specfically

Olsen repeated told viewers in 2025 they were a pass team disguised as a run team.

A lot of people blame the lack of Seattle run game for their offensive issues, but I think it's wrong to say the 2025 Seahawks run game was any good early in the year 2025 Weeks 1-6: 6.5% rush explosiveness rate 39.1% rush success rate 2026 Weeks 1-6: 6.7% rush explosiveness rate 40.0% rush success rate It did improve as the year went on, but still was below average 2025 Post Week 6 44% rush success 7.7% explosive

lesson in that* some states are exceptions
It's interesting how little the early voting data seems to move the prediction markets. I've seen people on here say that the Texas voting has either been terrible or excellent for Talarico, yet the people with money on the line don't seem to ascribe any signal to it.

Special episode this week. I promised more content on the direction of tennis – is the game getting better? But I don’t want to have the conversation in a bubble. That’s why I enlisted some v smart friends @jamescolgan26, @AnthonyDabbundo, @Jack_McMullen11, @Drewdle25 to chat.

really interesting read!
An LA hospitality group runs 25 bars, many of them right by Dodger Stadium. Every extra playoff game means packed bars. An early exit means lost revenue they were counting on. So they hedged it. They put $60,000 on Kalshi on the Dodgers *not* making the World Series. The Dodgers lost the NLCS to the Brewers. The position returned nearly 2x, helping cover the playoff business that *never* came. A Columbia law professor told Fortune it works like “a form of bespoke insurance.” Read the full story here: fortune.com/2026/10/19/predi…
