Kidney biopsy findings in a patient treated with complement inhibitor-pegcetacoplan. First one for me.
Glomeruli appear and vacuolated and washed out. The vacuoles are most prominent in the podocytes.
The interstitium also contains vacuolated cells.
Glomeruli appear non proliferative and were negative for Ig and C3 on Immunofluorescence.
However, there was extensive global glomerulosclerosis and tubular atrophy and interstitial fibrosis.

In this article we compared the renal outcome of AAV pts w renal involvement (eGFR <30 ml/min) treated with RTX alone vs. RTX + avacopan. No difference in renal outcomes btw the 2 groups but less exposure to steroids in those receiving avacopan.

Congratulations to my friend and colleague Dr. Cristián Juanet, who led this important study evaluating rituximab with or without avacopan in ANCA-associated vasculitis with severe renal involvement, under the mentorship of Dr. Ladan Zand @LadanZand and Dr. Fernando Fervenza @fervenzaf
Grateful to have contributed to this work and especially thankful to the Mayo Clinic Nephrology Fellowship @MayoClinicNeph for the mentorship, collaboration, and opportunities to grow as a clinician and researcher. @MayoClinic

#ERA26
Presented at #ERA26:
In this 104-week trial involving patients with primary membranous nephropathy, the type II anti-CD20 antibody obinutuzumab was superior to the calcineurin inhibitor tacrolimus in inducing complete remission. Full phase 3 MAJESTY trial results: nej.md/4dZsVPD
@ERAkidney

ALT A line graph from an article published in the New England Journal of Medicine compares obinutuzumab and tacrolimus in treating primary membranous nephropathy over 104 weeks. The y-axis represents the percentage of patients relapse‑free, while the x-axis represents weeks. The graph shows two lines, one for obinutuzumab and another for tacrolimus. The image mentions the European Renal Association Congress at the top.

😊👏👏 Outstanding presentation by our world-renowned consultant, Fernando Fervenza, at the Late Breaking Clinical Trials session during the 63rd ERA Congress in Glasgow. #ERA2026 #ERA26 European Renal Association @ERAkidney @fervenzaf at Late Breaking Clinical Trial Session
The Phase III MAJESTY Trial compared obinutuzumab versus tacrolimus in primary membranous nephropathy, addressing a critical unmet need in glomerular disease. It was inspiring to see a packed auditorium and tremendous engagement as these landmark results were presented to the international nephrology community.
👏👏🎉🙂 Congratulations to Dr. Fervenza and the entire MAJESTY Trial team for advancing the field and bringing new hope to patients with primary membranous nephropathy. Exciting times ahead for precision therapies in glomerular diseases.
We, at Mayo Clinic Nephrology, are proud to see Dr. Fervenza continue to lead groundbreaking clinical research that advances patient care and shapes the future of glomerular disease treatment worldwide. @MayoClinicNeph @HerrmannMd

😊😃🙏🏻 Happy to share that our American Society of Nephrology article, “AI in Nephrology Hands-On Primer: Practical Applications and Clinical Integration,” has been published in ASN Kidney News (May 2026).
This article highlights key insights and practical lessons from the ASN AI in Nephrology Hands-On Primer Workshop held in New York, focusing on real-world applications of AI in kidney care, clinical workflow integration, education, and responsible implementation.
The integration of AI into nephrology is no longer theoretical. The key challenge now is how to use these tools effectively, safely, and thoughtfully in clinical practice.
Grateful to collaborate with Noppawit Aiumtrakul, Arjunmohan Mohan, and Harshil A. Fichadiya, with me, Wisit Cheungpasitporn, 😊🙏🏻 thankful to ASN Kidney News and the ASN AI community for advancing education and innovation in this rapidly evolving field.
