Maybe honesty > authenticity? "Holmes takes advantage of our societal confusion between authenticity, or speaking one’s own truth, and honesty, in which one speaks the truth."

So @TylerShultz_ as a Theranos whistleblower. And he wrote the piece you need to read about ‘You Can See Everything.’ Elizabeth Holmes is still lying, he says. And the filmmakers, while creating a great piece of art, fall short on looking outside the walls of her apartment to document that. One key detail: "My wife had to squeeze my arm to prevent me from jumping out of my seat in the theater and screaming, THAT IS NOT THE DEVICE." Again, that device Holmes showed? It's not the one we're talking about!!!! Having seen the film, I basically agree with Tyler's take. statnews.com/2026/10/19/eliz…

I actually enjoyed “You can see everything” but people need to understand that this is not a documentary. And the device Elizabeth showed Nathan WAS NOT THE DEVICE

A few readers have taken me to task for “missing the point of the film,” which is apparently that Elizabeth Holmes is unknowable and everything is ambiguous. Here’s my response: She went after Tyler Shultz and Erika Cheung with everything she had. I was threatened with litigation on a daily basis for months on end. It was a ruthless cover-up of a breathtaking fraud, and she was at the controls. Just a little context for those who have forgotten or didn’t follow the original story. By the way, I loved the film. #BestPicture, IMO.

Science editor-in-chief Holden Thorpe gave the day’s first warning about the rise of science in China. He says he can see it in the papers researchers are trying to get published in the top scientific journal he edits. "Submissions from China continue to increase, not just in number but in quality, and submissions from the U.S. are going down,” Thorpe said. He later added: “The atmosphere there (China) is just so much more pro-science than it is here.” Here is a video.

The MMR vaccine provides 97% lifetime protection after two doses and is considered the best way to prevent infection. Adults with only one dose or no vaccination records should consult a health care provider about getting vaccinated.

Inspiring #immunology discoveries. #Science unlocks knowledge = lives saved
I asked Claude Opus 5.5 to make a 2-minute video on the history of immunology. Every frame & every note of the music was generated in code. It's really good! As an immunologist, this made me emotional. So many lives saved by vaccines, built on research we often take for granted

“Right to Try 2.0” gets the problem right and the solution wrong. N-of-1 gene editing needs faster, smarter regulation, not an end run around #FDA. When the treatment may be the first human exposure to a bespoke genetic medicine, oversight is a safeguard, not red tape. h/t @HollyLynchez @SteveJoffe @AhrensNicklas @kiranmusunuru #GeneTherapy #GeneEditing jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…

🚨NEW - CAR T cells for autoimmune diseases: 2026 update of the EBMT–ISCT–JACIE practice harmonisation and consensus recommendations from 31 experts in @TheLancetRheum. I’m proud of @ISCTglobal’s work with @TheEBMT & @JACIE_EBMT, with input from @eular_org & @ECTRIMS reps -Guidance spans rheumatological, neurological, hematological & pediatric indications. It prioritizes careful selection, trials whenever possible & multidisciplinary care in experienced centers, preferably accredited by @FACTcelltherapy or @JACIE_EBMT -The infusion is not the finish line. Immune monitoring, long-term follow-up & @TheEBMT Registry reporting are essential to assess durability & late toxicities. Teams must distinguish treatment-related inflammation from disease flares. These folks are "advocates" for the return of snake oil medicine. They want to cash in on less FDA oversight.
From @MargaretManto "Are stem cells the next peptides? These advocates think RFK Jr. could make it happen" statnews.com/2026/10/05/stem… Really interesting piece. I would quibble about calling these folks "advocates". They want to cash in on less FDA oversight
