It’s about time the news media started giving this pedestrian safety crisis the attention it deserves. The injuries are tragic, but the daily near misses are equally alarming. Pedestrians deserve safe streets and parks. We need enforcement. abc7ny.com/post/central-park…
Look at the pattern from @OpenPlans @TransAlt
• Fewer bus stops
• Fewer traffic lanes
• Low-traffic neighborhoods
• Street closures (Open Streets)
• Less parking
• Higher congestion tax
Each sold as "safety."
Together, they limit how freely people can move around.
Foundations and wealthy donors fund lobbyists @TransAlt @openplans to take street space from working New Yorkers who drive to jobs, drop off kids, medical appointments and pay the bills
Th streets are funded by everyday New Yorkers, and they should serve us

Ahead of today’s City Council hearing on Vision Zero, we rallied with City Council Transportation Chair @CMShaunAbreu, @kaymsanto, @OpenPlans, @NYC_SafeStreets, and our fellow Safe Streets Coalition members to demand real action on street safety.

There is legislation to ban e-bikes from parks. @CMvpaladino is the lead sponsor of INT 0377, which Julie Menin chose NOT to hear with the 21 other e-bike bills on September 30th. Nor was Priscilla’s Law heard as well. The two bills that would actually DO something.

Unless we vote NO on Question 3 on November 3rd, those lanes will be poured before anyone has a chance to object.
It is the outcome Uber, Lyft, and other big tech companies paid millions to produce.
While you are on the back of the ballot:
VOTE NO FOR ALL 5!

Another tragedy bc @NYCMayor @nydems refuse to license register and require all bikes to follow basic safety rules. If there are zero consequences for riding the wrong way, on sidewalks , through red lights - all we will see is more morbidity / mortality by lobbyist @TransAlt

Calling community input "red tape" should worry everyone.
If these proposals, drafted heavily by @openplans, @TransAlt , become law @nyc_dot could close streets, restrict access, movement — hand public space to real estate interests, with no community voice in the process.

Vote "NO" on all 5 ballot props! Early voting starts today. Our Mayor + his administration have been running commercials, promoting city websites + running Link Kiosks ads to deceive the public and consolidate power. Simply put, it's a power grab intended to exclude the Public! This would limit community input and influence on decisions ranging from high rises to street sheds, bike lanes, and street redesigns. It will limit public scrutiny and oversight on city contracts (bound to increase corruption). If there was an option to vote "HELL NO" that would be more appropriate!

Given the very bad “redesign” of Central Park by Central Park Conservancy and the DOT this will keep happening everyday and every week. As long as e-bikes and e-scooters are unregistered, as long as their operators do not have proper licensing to use them, we will see the grim consequences of irresponsibility on the streets of the city.
The City Council has punted on the notion of licensing and registering e-bike owners and users, saying it comes down to a home rule issue with the state of New York. If that is the case, then the City Council should pass a resolution urging Albany lawmakers, when they reconvene in January for their new session, to let the city do as it pleases with regulating e-bikes on the streets of New York.
