We can’t wait to rein in New York City’s most dangerous drivers.
That’s why we rallied with state and local elected officials outside City Hall today. Let’s pass the Stop Super Speeders bill into law and slow these reckless drivers down!
This expansion is great news! Every vehicle in New York City's fleet should get Intelligent Speed Assistance. We must ensure that City vehicles save lives, not take them.
The City should also shrink the fleet — both in terms of vehicle size, and the total number of vehicles.
From a 50-vehicle pilot to a national model for street safety!
With @NYCMayor, we’re expanding our Intelligent Speed Assistance fleet to 3,000 city vehicles—plus partnering with NYC School Bus Umbrella Services (NYCSBUS) to pilot pedestrian alerts on 100 buses! 🚌
This is a great idea! We called for universal countdown clocks in our 2024 bus stop heat report, written in partnership with NASA:

Slowing down super speeders saves lives. @Sen_Gounardes and I fought for years to pass our bill at the state level, and now @kaymsanto is taking it across the final hurdle at the city.
We are fighting for every family that’s lost a loved one to a preventable crash.
"It is a commonsense reform to allow the Department of Transportation to... make these fixes,” said Grace Rauh, the executive director of Citizens Union. "We would not ask the NYPD when they are concerned about the safety of New Yorkers to slow down their response."

“The number of drivers who have racked up 16 or more speed camera tickets in a one-year period is spiking, right as legislation to slow them down comes up for a vote.”

There is a new super speeder on New York City’s streets every 27 minutes.
Every day that passes, the urgency grows, the threat to our communities grows, and the risk of unrecoverable loss grows. We urge the City Council to act now.

It's time to slow down the worst-of-the-worst drivers.
Albany gave New York City the permission — now it's up to the City Council to swiftly pass the bill into law, and DOT to set up the speed-limiter program as soon as possible. The longer we wait, the more lives will be lost.

Answer: More than 16,500 as of the end of August, per @TransAlt.
That's a 12 percent increase from all of 2025.
32 percent of these drivers are "out of state"

This morning, I was proud to stand with @NYC_DOT in Astoria to announce the expansion of the Red Light Camera Program to cover 600 intersections across our city.
These cameras are an essential tool to change how drivers behave and to prevent red light running and fatal crashes.
Red light cameras save lives. We applaud the Mamdani administration for installing them at 600 intersections — the limit of what state law allows.
In the 2027 session, the state legislature has an opportunity to reauthorize and expand this critical safety program.
We know how to make our streets safer, so we did it 600 times.
Red light cameras reduce red light running by 80% and T-bone crashes by 65%. Most importantly, they help New Yorkers get home safely.
That's why we installed new red light cameras at 600 intersections across the five boroughs to help stop dangerous driving before tragedy strikes, and make our streets safer for everyone who walks, rolls, drives, or takes the bus.

You know it, I know it, and everybody in Sunset Park knows it, too: Third Ave is a death trap.
Our neighbors have spent years begging for action. The human cost is too high to wait any longer. It's time to redesign Third Ave to make it truly safe for everyone who uses it. – at Brooklyn, NY
The easiest way to save lives on our streets: lowering the speed limit to 20 mph.
@NYCComptroller Levine, the City Council's Transportation Chair @CMShaunAbreu, three borough presidents — @bradhoylman, @BKBPReynoso, and @QnsBPRichards — and 17 community boards all agree.
"In Levine’s Oct. 19 missive, he and the other signatories urge DOT Commissioner Mike Flynn to quickly pursue 'district-wide implementation' of Sammy’s Law on eligible streets in each of the 17 community districts"
