Floating or fixed rate? Quick rule:
Floating: the rate is an estimate, set when your deposit lands. Better for most swaps, since fixed quotes price in a buffer you end up paying for.
Fixed: the rate is locked when you create the transaction, so you know what you'll get before you send. The trade-off is a tighter deposit window, and if the market moves far enough the exchange can still refund instead of honouring it.
When in doubt, float. And have your wallet ready before you confirm either way, since fixed gives you less time to send.

⚠️ How to stay safe against an exchange changing their deposit address:
Only use services with a Letter of Guarantee — and download it BEFORE your deposit

$913,000 in XMR disputed between a swap service and its user, and nobody can prove what happened
User says he sent 1,438 XMR to Pablo Cash OTC to swap these funds in two transactions, 700 XMR and 738 XMR
And got nothing back
Right after deposits the swap service went down for maintenance and blamed a PHP vulnerability
Pablo Cash says funds never arrived and cannot find the order IDs or the deposit address in its records
It also points at the screenshots, 700 $XMR transfer shows an earlier block with fewer confirmations than the 738 one, while both phone screens show the same time
The dispute is now in arbitration on a forum

None of the exchanges we list ever asked users for the rationale behind getting Monero 🤷♂️

⚠️ Kraken Questions Users Over Monero Withdrawals
Kraken is contacting users regarding their Monero (XMR) withdrawals as part of a due diligence process.
Users are being asked to explain their employment status, source of funds for USD and USDC deposits, and intended use of the withdrawn XMR.
Responses are required within 7 days, but it is unclear if non-compliance could lead to further restrictions or frozen funds.
