My research plan is to get more and more confused about more and more things. The dream is to get really confused about a lot of things at the same time.

Everyone, including those who think we're building powerful AI to improve lives for everyone, should take seriously how poorly our current economic indicators (unemployment, earnings, inflation) capture the well-being of low- and moderate-income folks. politico.com/news/magazine/2…

Me on how we go from contractual fantasies of the everyday, through rhetorical techniques of power in digitized material forms, to a normativity of resignation, and somehow all in twenty minutes, at two o'clock in Portsmouth #SLSA2024!

So excited to discuss tomorrow @KCL_Law the manuscript of my book, "The Poet of Uncertainty. Shakespeare on Law, Power, and Knowledge." We live in an age of uncertainty: what better guide would you want than Shakespeare, who turned uncertainty into his main creative tool?

Late to @beatonna's 'Ducks', a book of such emotional weight that I have not picked it up to put it back on the shelf for days. It shows how the sensible little choices of people getting by in crisis can add up to exploitation, sexism, colonial extraction, destruction.

Tickled to learn that 'solecism' is of an Attic Greek word for, basically, 'how they speak Greek over there in Soli', and so encodes the antiquity of the connexion between grammar and prejudice.

New @OED released with no consultation or notice, to general contumely. Coming back from a week in the woods to a devamped OED is ironic because the woods is part of my connexion to dictionaries. You better expect a long thread about changing books of words! /15

Commercial knowledge systems are rarely made well for academic work, definitionally unmotivated by profit. We live in a historical maximum of access that seems to be waning across digital domains as sources are partitioned, assetized, enclosed, and repackaged for sale. /15

PS: the CD-ROM versions of the OED can still be found (though OUP will not sell them to you). I have the whole thing on my desktop in less than a gigabyte: indexed for instant lookup, excellent advanced search and modular display, up to date to fifteen years ago. Try that!
