Andy Burnham could make a case for offering a single market deal without a referendum, but the Tories and Reform could pledge to reverse it on the same basis
A referendum would cement the deal at home and convince the EU we were serious writes @BlogWyatt

"I always thought during the Brexit negotiations that the door will remain open" to the UK, the EU's former Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier tells @CathyNewman.

Growing US 🇺🇸 re-alignment with Russia 🇷🇺 means sanction relief; possible north corridor opening & energy/defence changes. Türkiye 🇹🇷 loses geo-political bridge position; sanctions circumvention hub; & faces more commercial, energy & defence competition & less middle corridor.

Trump is pressuring Ukraine to concede to Putin, a known adversary aligned with China, Iran and North Korea against American interests. We must not help Putin divide us from our allies. A stronger Ukraine and united NATO are vital to America’s security and economic interests.

In this blog I suggested this to Starmer providing the UK Parliament approved new EU rules & could trigger a speedy exit if the EU adopted laws the UK could not accept

The most important thing today is that Starlink and Starshield operations have been restored to the speeds we had before the restrictions. The speeds are now where they need to be. The restoration began overnight, and by this morning, speeds were already sufficient. This matters: for our frontline logistics, for defending Ukraine against jet-powered “shaheds.”
I thank all Americans and all our partners who took this seriously and truly helped – members of Congress, senators, all the media, the State Department, and the President. Protecting lives matters.

Replying to @carlbildt
@carlbildt spot-on here. Europe (EU + UK) has GDP roughly 10 times Russia's. Putin's aggression is an existential threat to democratic Europe . Leaders should say honestly to voters that helping Ukraine & boosting defence means sacrificing other desirable spending
Europe faces a major challenge financially supporting 🇺🇦 with the unrelenting 🇷🇺 attacks taking a heavier toll on the economy of the country. It’s big numbers, but in reality the 0.2% or so should be perfectly possible within the 5% of GDP already committed for defence. It’s a question of political will.

BREAKING: Volodymyr Zelenskyy tells @piersmorgan he has been betrayed by Trump, that Elon Musk and the US deliberately cut off Starlink and people are being killed as a result
“This is not the right side of history,” he says. “It is a pity that we are losing a strong partner”
On Musk and Starlink he says: “This decision will bring a lot of human losses. Of course, people will die”
“I am sure they knew what they
did, absolutely. Because it was 1am at night, Starlink was blocked by SpaceX and the United States”
“It’s not just about attack. It’s also about defending life. So people were killed because, not enough destroying, not enough
interceptors, including interceptors with Starlink, which didn't work. Of
course.”
Asked if he’s angry with Musk, Zelenskyy says: “Yes, I think he is not right. It's a big mistake.”
In the latest #RUSICommentary, Professor Derrick Wyatt KC argues that Europe should start “talking over Putin’s head” to his potential successors, offering a political and economic reset in return for a just peace for Ukraine.
