I’m convinced that most stress isn’t from the hard things you’re doing, but from the hard things you’re avoiding. A good life is built by simply doing uncomfortable things sooner. The delayed conversation gets harder. The ignored problem gets bigger. The small repair gets more expensive. Peace is found through direct early action.

In 1998, Matt Damon paid $10,000 to enter the World Series of Poker after playing a poker genius in Rounders. He looked down at two kings. Then the man across the table revealed what Hollywood could not prepare him for. Damon was facing Doyle Brunson, a two-time world champion who had spent decades playing for real money. Pocket kings were exactly the kind of hand an inexperienced player would be relieved to see. Only pocket aces start ahead of them. Brunson had the aces. Damon was eliminated. The interesting part is not that an actor lost to a professional. It is that Damon could lose while holding a hand he was right to consider strong. The cards did not become bad because someone else happened to have better ones. That is an expensive distinction outside poker, too. A good outcome can reward a reckless decision. A bad outcome can punish a sensible one. Judge everything by what happened afterward, and you can teach yourself the wrong lesson from both. Winning tells you who collected the money. It does not, by itself, tell you who made the better decision. Follow for the stories behind money, risk and the mistakes that look like good judgment.

45 states in the USA have the lottery. 9 states have legalized online poker. One is complete luck the other is a skill game. This is nonsensical!

Really interesting direction that the brand is going, a lot of big buy in, small high roller turbos. We’re going to see a big change in who has a lot of bracelets moving forward. 40 man PLO 25k turbo (with I assume reentry? so 20ish projected runners? 40 man 50k PLO, 40 man PLO/NLH mix 25ks. Negreanu is going to be all time bracelet leader very quickly which I assume the brand wants and then a lot of the wizards like Mararthur & Eelis will overtake the guys who have grinded during the summers over the last decade or so. The majority are priced out now, the buy ins are just so high that without backing or sponsorship you just can’t really play, the same 25 or so guys will play these events reentering and basically guaranteeing bracelets between eachother. I’m not sure how great that is for poker and for the brand though? But I’m sure they’ve considered all of the above. Really interesting.

If I could wave a magic wand and change anything at the wsop I’d get rid of day 2 registration. I don’t think it gets you that many more people. If they want to play they will play. End extreme late registration! I know it’s not going to happen but for the good of the game it should!

Time for a much-needed @WSOPOnlinePoker rant. 🧵 We are 3 bracelet events in and the ending times on the East Coast (where most of the pool is NJ, PA, MI) are atrocious: Event #1: 7:04 AM ET Event #2: 6:35 AM ET Event #3: 6:45 AM ET @jeffplatt @Kevmath @RealKidPoker @tjreidpoker

As my amigo would say, I believe the below to be IMPORTANTE. Take a min to read please and then an extra minute to ask your favourite ambassadors to push the message internally. The main problem is there is multi parts of a tournament and with such long late reg you have to turbo the structure to get the other parts "over with". Two scenarios: 1) 5 hour late reg, you need to also get ITM, get to the FT and finish the FT. Tournaments cant last more than 10 hours really, so over half of the tournament is spent on the late reg meaning the structure is incredibly fast by design. 2) 2.5 hours late reg, you can now spend 2 hours getting itm, 2 hours getting to the ft and 2 hours on the ft. 8 hours total and crucially only 25% of the tournament in "reg phase" meaning the tournament is never rushed at any point and the average stack stays high throughout. Additionally & crucially, it makes the tournament into a shove/fold fest, where amateurs are unable to see flops with pretty hands, whenever they make wide limps/calls/raises they are immediately punished. It lowers the skill element of the game a lot and it makes potential winrates essentially non existent. Even worse, so much of the schedule is PKO, you basically shouldn't register a PKO after level 3 anyway, so there is really NO NEED. I hope the industry can correct itself.
Late registration online shouldn’t be more than 2.5 hours & live shouldn’t be longer than 8 hours. So many people choose to reg at the last second regardless when that second is. The extra entries the field gains for the extra hours doesn’t justify the detriment to the structure
