Forty years ago today, I got offered a job by the @PhillyInquirer. I remember, because something else notable occurred on that date.
Oct 25, 1986: 40 years ago, Bill Buckner allowed a ball hit by Mookie Wilson to go through his legs which resulted in the Mets defeating the Red Sox in game 6 of the World Series. #80s The Mets went on to win Game 7 and win the championship.

No coincidence that the sole NFL game scheduled opposite the World Series is one of the leagues most reliable rivalries in Cowboys-Eagles tonight. Ever since a TNF window in 2022 trailed the World Series, the NFL simply does not tolerate losing head-to-head viewership battles.
Tonight is the 135th meeting all-time, postseason included, between the Eagles and Cowboys.
It will be Merrill Reese's 100th game calling play-by-play of Eagles-Cowboys.

Round one of “Hagler vs Hearns” is undoubtedly the greatest opening round in boxing history. This should be posted here once a week. I don’t care how many times I see it, it never gets old.

Carrie Fisher was paid $850 a week to play Princess Leia.
George Lucas owned her face.
She was 19. She signed the contract, and with it the rights to her likeness.
Then came the dolls. The action figures. The shampoo bottles. The Pez dispensers. Star Wars merchandise went on to make billions, and none of it was hers.
Lucas later gave her a quarter of a percent of his own profits. By 1980, it was worth about $320,000.
Alec Guinness got 2.25% of the profits on the same film.
28 years later, at Lucas’s lifetime achievement tribute, she stood at the podium and settled the score in front of all of Hollywood.
She put it on the record:
“You have owned my likeness all these years, so that every time I look in the mirror, I have to send you a check for a couple of bucks.”
The room laughed. Lucas laughed.
The case for Lucas: he took the risk, Fox laughed at him, and nobody knew it would be Star Wars.
The case for Fisher: she was the face on the box, and the box made billions.
Here’s the lesson: if you don’t own your name, someone else will sell it.
In the video, she roasts him for four minutes. Watch her, then decide.
Was she joking, or finally saying it out loud?

Since the BIG 5 has popped up in the news, we thought we would take the opportunity to remind people that we have scores of 2,963 official men's college basketball games played at the PALESTRA at BoopSTATS.com
(We believe that is a complete list . . . )

The current format of Big 5 men's basketball will end after this year, and the immediate future has the 5 non-Villanova schools playing round-robin without the Wildcats.
Villanova didn't want to keep this format, and another could not be agreed on.

Hello! I'd like to write a story about how fans are supporting Jalen Hurts in his recovery.
If you or someone you know has sent a card/letter/gift to him, and would be willing to share why, I'd love to talk!
I can be reached at [email protected] or in DMs. Thanks as always☺️

The “F.U.” joke in The Odd Couple almost got cut.
On Broadway, producers panicked about profanity rules; Mike Nichols refused to budge. Opening night, Walter Matthau delivered the line, the audience filled in the blanks and erupted. By the time it hit the screen, everyone knew it
