The year is 180. You are a gladiator in Ephesus, and the films will give you a body like a bronze statue. You are fed barley porridge and beans, and the crowd calls you a barley man to your face. The porridge puts a layer of fat over your muscle so the cuts bleed instead of killing, which is good for the show. The man who owns you dines on dormice rolled in honey and poppy seed. When your bones are dug up eighteen centuries later they are full of barley and almost nothing else, and a man at a university will call your diet plant-forward.
The year is 1300. You are a villein on a Hampshire manor, living, as the brochure will one day put it, in harmony with the land. The land gives you pottage: peas, beans and oats in the one pot, every day, until you die of it at forty. The hall above you smells of venison from the lord's own park, roast pork, eel, swan, butter from cows you milked before dawn. Take one deer from his wood and you lose a hand. The court that decides it sits in his hall, after dinner.
The year is 1755. You are a Highland tenant eating oatmeal three times a day, and in London Dr Johnson has just printed his dictionary. Oats: a grain which in England is generally given to horses, but in Scotland supports the people. The laird at the head of your glen finds this very funny over his beef. The beef was driven to market past your door.
The year is 1795. You are a Berkshire farm labourer and a clergyman is at your table with a notebook, writing down what your children eat. Bread. Tea. A little cheese. Bacon on Sunday if the pig did well. He prints it as a national disgrace. The squire you work for has a joint every day of the year and is told from the pulpit that your trouble is thrift.
The year is 1847. You are in County Clare and the potatoes have gone black in the ground for the second year running. Your family lived on them, ten pounds a day for a working man, and you are sitting in a cabin with nothing. At the harbour the ships are loading cattle, pigs, butter and bacon for England, under armed guard. The agent on the quay looks well. So does the bullock walking up the gangplank past the people who raised it.
The year is 1933. You are in a village outside Kharkiv. The grain quota has been collected, then collected again, then the brigades have come with iron rods to probe the floors for anything buried. Your children are eating boiled bark, and the dog next door has stopped barking. In the district town there is a shop for Party members with a curtain over the window. Behind the curtain there is sausage.
The year is 1997. You are in North Pyongan and the rations stopped months ago. You are stripping the inner bark from pines and boiling grass, and the famine will take hundreds of thousands before it ends. The Dear Leader's personal chef is flying to Japan for tuna, to Denmark for pork and to Iran for caviar, and will write a book about it.
The year is 2026. You are in a supermarket in England. The posters say eat less meat for the planet. The spread is plant-based, the cereal has a heart on the box, and the beef carries a warning about its footprint. You take the lentils, because you are a responsible person, and you pay more for them than the villein's pottage ever cost anyone.
The people who put the posters up flew to the climate conference, and the menu had beef on it. They eat what the lord ate, what the laird ate, what the agent on the quay ate, what the man behind the curtain ate.
Two thousand years, and the diet of grain and beans was always what the powerful handed down to the people beneath them. Everyone at both ends of the table knew what it meant.
Now it has a name, a logo and a moral, and for the first time in history the peasant is paying extra for it.

Big story developing in Russia today.
Ukraine hit Yandex really hard.
The loss of 4 yandex data centers means Russia drones lose realtime data, businesses lose customer data, cloud storage disappears. It’s a huge disruption across Russia, and Belarus.
Late reports are Yandex is totally down across Russia.
This means dozens of apps used by people everyday are not working.
Ukraine really hit them last night. Also, more oil tanks are burning in several locations.
A lot of people have no email, and no way to do business today and the damage at Yandex is severe. The impact on the Russian military is immediate and it will cut down the drones they are sending into Ukraine.
Not one bot commented on this.
Usually it would be 7 to 10! You wouldn't see it because I can easily filter them, but none!
Ukraine has done great damage to Russian businesses and its military but it seems to have really hit their propaganda machine!

The General Staff has halted the offensive in Donbas
Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov has halted the offensive in Donbas because a significant portion of the fuel reserves prepared for the autumn campaign will be sent to Moscow. The Kremlin made this decision immediately after the strike on the Kapotnya oil refinery.
These reserves had been accumulated for the second stage of the operation. Now there is unlikely to be enough fuel even to simply supply positions and carry out individual attacks. There is no longer enough fuel to move large formations forward. Gerasimov’s order means the end of the offensive campaign and a transition to the defensive. Local assaults will continue so that the General Staff can report advances and color in new areas on its maps. However, capturing Kramatorsk and Sloviansk is impossible with the current level of supplies. Hopes of reaching the borders of the DPR by the end of 2026 have finally disappeared, and now it will not be possible even in 2027.
The situation is worst in the Kramatorsk-Sloviansk sector. Russian forces have lost the initiative east of Sviatohirsk and were pushed back toward Zherebets, causing the northern encirclement effort around the urban area to stall. Farther south, the army has become bogged down near Kostiantynivka and has still failed to reach the positions from which a full-scale offensive on Kramatorsk could begin.

Jury in modern America.
Eight are women
Four are men
A third of them will decide whatever gets them out of there fastest.
Three of them will never understand “reasonable doubt” no matter how many times you explain it to them.
Two of them could barely read and fill out the forms the court provided them. They certainly don’t understand big concepts like presumption of innocence.
Two already think you’re guilty because of your zodiac sign.
Two of them have already decided you aren’t attractive and would vote guilty.
Most of the men will hang you in the front lawn in a good early morning public hanging if it gets them back to work in time to clock in after lunch break.
Absolutely none of them are following the judge’s instructions to ignore any potential outside news reporting and what they see on social media about the case. They’re all on social media and their smart phones.
If it becomes a high profile case 90% of them will be trying to figure out which way to vote that fits the national consensus on social media and pop culture.
The jury room be an HR conference..

Today is Ukrainian Independence Day, and my team needs your help.
We lost our primary evac vehicle to a fiber-optic drone strike.
Everyone survived, but our evac car is destroyed.

We have a whole gun store packed full of guns.
No clue why @TheRascallion can't just scurry to the back and pick something out, oh no, Rascal has to traverse time and dimensions and risk tail and hide for the guns he brings you good folk.
The story Rascal was spinnin' is so wild that I only half listened. Something about portals and time jumps, or was it dimension jumps, heck I dunno.
Regardless. Rascal was talking to the fine folks over at @SummRidge and the two started debating 1911s and how they won 11 World Wars and what not and next thing we know he's conjured up a situation with @washghost1 George Washington's Ghost. The way Rascal tells it he asked the old patriot what his favorite gun was.
George says, "That is a heavy question indeed. I will refrain from painting myself into a corner. That said, this will do most anything you need, and besides, it's God's favorite"
And that, Rascal swears, is how he came into this weeks giveaway.
For HARVEY'S FAMOUS WEEKLY GIVEAWAY this week we the Classic @thecoltfirearms Series 70 1911 chambered in the venerable .45ACP!

Air3F horn antennas
StabX stabilization modules
RavLink FPV repeater
EMAX Aeris Link Micro + TX
TBS filters, GEPRC antennas

Plus Starlink to keep all of this actually working.
Kupyansk direction is heavy.
No room for comms failure.

Nothing here is extra.
But now we finally have some movement.
Let’s keep it going.
