The Pirates have claimed OF Akil Baddoo off waivers from the Brewers.
Baddoo, 28, was a Rule 5 surprise in 2021 for the Tigers but didn’t produce much for them after that. He had 11 home runs and an .811 OPS in 64 games in Triple-A last season.

The Pirates have extended a qualifying offer to Brandon Lowe. The rate this year is one year, $23.15 million.
Lowe has until Nov. 17 to accept or deny. If he denies and signs elsewhere, the Pirates will get a draft pick. The Pirates and Lowe can still negotiate other contracts.

Teams with good/great pieces consistently ask the Yankees about top OF prospect Spencer Jones . The Yankees are consistent on this too: They will only trade Jones (and others in package) for Paul Skenes, who’s not available and not going anywhere.

That was an especially grim night at PNC Park and I just had to write something about it after I got home. adamgretz.substack.com/p/tal…

Some #FakeNews out there. I happen to know Bob Nutting. He is as good a man as I have ever met. He is an excellent team owner who righted a sinking Pirates ship. He cares deeply about the organization & wants to bring a championship to Pgh. THAT is the truth.

This has been a few months in the making at this point, and I'm excited it's now live and public!!
It's really cool to be able to see my work presented this way, and I'm excited for this partnership.
I'd be thrilled if you'd check it out!

Official: The Pirates draft LSU outfielder Derek Curiel with the No. 5 overall selection. Curiel, 21, batted .353 with six homers and 46 RBIs this year.

Four starters on the IL and Marcell Ozuna still can't find a way into a lineup. What a disaster of a signing.
The Pirates are 10 games under .500 (23-33) when Ozuna starts. They're 11 games over .500 (24-13) when he sits.

See this making the rounds. No idea where this “stat” comes from.
Pirates are 33-4 when leading after 7 inn., 3-34 when trailing, and 5-4 (incl yesterday) when tied. So 37-37 (plus 9 extra inning games) if games ended after 7.
Bullpen’s an issue, but use real stats to show it.

Additionally, Konnor Griffin will start a rehab assignment at Double-A Altoona tomorrow.

Source: The Pirates are calling up RHP Antwone Kelly. Kelly, the Pirates' No. 7 prospect, is 3-4 with a 4.50 ERA at Triple-A Indianapolis.
The 22-year-old had a 3.60 ERA in May and five clean innings in June. He'll pitch out of the bullpen. @francysromero was on it.

ROSTER MOVES: We have selected the contract of INF Davis Wendzel from Triple-A Indianapolis and optioned OF Jhostynxon Garcia to Indianapolis.
RHP Chris Devenski was transferred from the 15- to the 60-day injured list to make room for Wendzel on the 40-man roster.
