Healthy forests need active management not one-size-fits-all rules. The federal Roadless Rule restricts road construction and timber harvesting across millions of acres of national forests. Repealing it could give local forest managers more flexibility to reduce wildfire risks and restore forest health while preserving existing environmental reviews.

“If we have any hope of cutting energy costs and creating more good-paying jobs to help hardworking New Mexicans support their families, then we need to be able to build big clean energy projects in a matter of years — not decades.” That’s a quote from New Mexico’s senior US Senator, @SenatorHeinrich in his latest article discussing BAAJA and the benefits for his constituents- this applies to everyone who benefits from big infrastructure projects across the country too. full article below ⬇️

Big tech investments in energy infrastructure could help lower electricity costs but only if the rules get it right. As data centers and other large electricity users drive up demand, their investments could help pay for new infrastructure and spread costs across more customers. But utility regulations can determine whether those savings actually reach consumers. Take Google’s investment in Arkansas: its agreement with Entergy includes commitments tied to the infrastructure needed to serve its new facilities, raising important questions about how those payments benefit existing ratepayers.

America’s power grid may have more capacity hiding in plain sight. Instead of building entirely new transmission lines, utilities can upgrade existing wires to carry more electricity—potentially saving time, avoiding new development, and lowering costs for consumers. The bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act (BAAJA) would encourage these upgrades by changing how utilities plan grid improvements, recover costs, and navigate permitting. Fun fact: A study found that upgrading existing transmission lines in Texas could avoid roughly 6,500 miles of new development and save electricity customers $20 billion through 2040.

Data centers can help local communities before construction even begins. As Whitney Landress explains in a recent C3 Journal article, data center projects face growing opposition over electricity use, water consumption, and noise, therefore developers need to give communities reasons to support new investments. One idea? Clean up abandoned oil and gas wells near proposed data center sites. Developers could deliver measurable environmental benefits upfront while building trust with local residents. Big energy breakthroughs can start with small government investments. ARPA-E was created to fund the bets others won’t: early-stage, high-risk research with the potential for outsized impact on energy security, affordability, and the environment. By backing technology-neutral, disruptive energy solutions across the value chain, the Agency has repeatedly helped move ambitious ideas from the lab toward new companies, patents, and follow-on investment. ⬇️

America needs to build more energy infrastructure and faster. Lengthy permitting delays can hold up pipelines, power plants, and transmission lines for years, driving up costs and discouraging investment. The bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act (BAAJA) aims to streamline the permitting process and give businesses more certainty to build the infrastructure America needs. Read more below from C3 Solutions Executive Chairman and Co-Founder, Drew Bond in his latest article, “America Needs Permitting Reform” ⬇️

Obstruction for obstruction’s sake gets us nowhere. If you actually care about our climate, you want to build more clean energy. This bill would make that easier.
Scoop: Enviros held a call Thurs in which progressive opponents tried to rally fence-sitters against the permitting bill. I obtained the transcript. "We really have to have a pretty clear agreement by all parties that this is an effort to stop this bill, not to make it better"

The Assistant Secretary for Electricity at the DOE, Katie Jereza, joined us this afternoon and spoke about how we achieve an affordable and reliable grid. She explained the Ratepayer Protection Pledge, the need for predictability for energy investors, and critical need for innovation with validation.
