It's election season, a great time to impress upon members of Congress and candidates that they must #ActOnClimate to get our votes. CCLers are organizing "Earth Day: Election Edition" events around the country. Find one near you:

Hawaii needs affordable clean energy that is also equitable, sustainable, and reliable. To incentivize the transition to such a system, Hawaii needs to implement carbon cashback, which taxes importers of fossil fuels and returns the money to residents. #CarbonCashback

1. Polluters should pay, for markets to work. 2. Worst fossil fuel scam is polluting for free. 3. Price should be at least $185 or per ton.

"The research team’s key finding: Each additional ton of carbon dioxide that cars, power plants and other sources add to the atmosphere costs society $185."
Sounds like we really need a #PriceOnCarbon.

Mahalo nui loa @RepEdCase and @RepKahele for voting for the #IRA and for tirelessly working for the American people and the people of Hawaii. Great first step. #ClimateActionNow

WE DID IT! The House has passed the #InflationReductionAct, sending it to President Biden for his signature. This is a historic moment for action on #ClimateChange, and CCL will work to ensure that there is more to come.

The Inflation Reduction Act is not a Democratic or Republican bill. It's a bill for America. We have an opportunity to lower drug costs for seniors, lower ACA health care premiums, increase our energy security & invest in energy technologies - all while reducing our national debt

But know that our work won’t stop here.
We’ll continue to fight to support working families in Hawaii and across the country, including by making child care and housing more affordable, and much more.

Democrats have produced—with no help from Republicans—a historic piece of legislation that will lower costs, combat climate change, and tackle inflation.
We must stick together to pass this bill.
For that reason, I’ll be voting no on amendments that jeopardize final passage.
Mahalo nui loa @brianschatz and @maziehirono for voting for the IRA and for tirelessly working for the American people and the people of Hawaii. Get some rest. #PassTheIRA

The Supreme Court’s decision last week to limit the @EPA’s ability to address climate change will have a devastating impact on our planet.
Congress must step up to the plate and build our clean energy future. There is no time to waste.

The solutions to #ClimateChange and high energy costs, as these authors suggest, is to put a fee on carbon and give revenue to households...hmm, sounds familiar.

CCL's statement on #SCOTUS ruling:
"In light of today’s unfortunate ruling from the Supreme Court, it is more important than ever for Congress to... pass durable legislation that will reduce carbon emissions as quickly and efficiently as possible."

The latest “State of the Global Climate” report (library.wmo.int/doc_num.php?…) concludes that our world’s oceans grew to their warmest and most acidic levels on record last year. This crisis was not caused by nature and won’t just fix itself. (1/2)
Our CCLers are on a roll with so many great LTE’s!
Bobbie Best does a wonderful job explaining #HR2037 aka the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act in the second letter released by @thegardenisland
