Lula’s reelection is a significant blow to the “Donroe Doctrine” and Trump’s quest for regional “domination.” Undeniably, there is a sizable constellation of pro-MAGA leaders in Latin America. Undeniably, the leaders of the region’s two biggest countries are not among them.
Lula le devuelve a América Latina la dignidad que Trump y sus gobernadores de provincias imperiales le habían quitado.

Brasil: En algo más de dos horas se cuentan 120 millones de votos. Impresionante.

It was the turnout, stupid. 3 million more people voted in 2nd round than 1st. Only 3.2% of all voters spoiled their ballots, lowest percentage in a 2nd round this century Source: @folha

#Lula’s victory is an extraordinary moment for #Brazil, with consequences far beyond its borders. It is a huge victory for democracy and human rights, and a reason to believe that decency still has political force. 🇧🇷 ❤️

As the core hub for Peruvian fruit imports, Shanghai Port handles more than 70 percent of China's imports of Peruvian fruit, serving as a key gateway for bilateral agricultural trade.
The #Chancay-#Shanghai shipping route has seen increasingly frequent sailings and booming two-way trade since the beginning of this year, according to a Sunday report by China News Service citing Shanghai Customs statistics. In the first eight months, the route operated 170 voyages, carrying 141,000 tons of import and export cargo worth $599 million, up 13.7% and 33.3% year-on-year, respectively. globaltimes.cn/page/202609/1…

The concept of a digital native is a myth. The advent of iPhones and laptops did not undo eons of brain evolution in the space of a few years — even if excessive screen time is associated with the thinning of the cerebral cortex. (The damage appears to be reversible
The New York Times: No puedes “gamificar” una educación real. La obsesión por hacer que aprender sea siempre “divertido” ha llevado a llenar las aulas de pantallas, juegos y estímulos rápidos. Aja.
I just listened to the Chevron CEO Mike Wirth about the announcement on Venezuela and it illustrates the misinformation campaign that the Trump administration is deploying about Venezuela. The announcement is for USD 7 billion over 5 years, not by Chevron but by the secret joint venture in which they are a partner, which includes PDVSA. Nothing will come out of the ground anytime soon, so no relief at the pump for US consumers by November 2026 or 2028. The company is not changing its guidance on free cashflow because the capital contribution was already in their investment budget. It also said that the terms of the agreement are secret, something that should delegitimize it in the eyes of any democracy. The secrecy is legal under the Venezuelan anti-sanctions exceptional law, to allow the country to circumvent US sanctions. The US is using that exception to push ahead with secret no-bid deals with US companies. Chevron’s comparative advantage? Coziness with the Venezuelan dictatorship and a track record of opposing a return to democracy. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Indeed.
Writing in today’s @nytimes, I argue that when governments transfer resources to politically connected elites, democracy suffers. Mr. Trump’s oil plan for Venezuela will not bring democratic change closer. It will push it further away. nytimes.com/2026/09/05/opini…
