FACTS The Governments sanctions on Israel will severely damage the economic well being of up to 40,000 Palestinians and will have no impact whatsoever on the Israeli economy - in fact the sanctions will boost Israeli employment Let me explain. There are no available reliable recent statistics that show the percentage of goods produced in settlements in Judea and Samaria that are exported overseas. The best guest figures are that 30% of goods are exported and 70% are for the domestic Israeli market. What is more reliable are the number of Palestinians employed ( officially some 20,000 and unofficially at least that number ) where unemployment in the Palestinian controlled territories ( area A and part of area B ) is nearly 30%. Now in practice this is what happens. Goods produced in sanctioned areas will be relabelled. This is a practice used by many countries to get around sanctions. For example it is a matter of policy that Malaysia sanctions Israeli goods but they still buy them after relabelling them from third party mutually friendly nations. This practice has been going on for decades . The only people to suffer from the UK’s anti Jewish state actions, designed to win back lost Muslim votes , will be the Palestinians . Any change in manufacturing locations will necessitate the loss of Palestinian jobs which will go to either Israelis or immigrants from South Asia . It is estimated that at least fifteen thousand Palestinians will lose their jobs in the foreseeable future and others during the year ahead as manufacturing relocates . Well done Ed Miliband
