We're in a new era of communication, and only one side seems to be living in it. The old guard consultant class is about to be relegated to the dustbin of history. If you think that high prices lost the election for the right, you don't understand marketing. Humans have no problem paying a premium for a good quality brand. Notice the word "brand", not "product". Are Nikes better than New Balance? Nope. But the brand is better. And notice what happened when they tinkered with the brand and screwed their core narrative? Nike stock fell through the basement. Did the product change? Nope. The brand did. It's not the product, it's the brand. Results don't sell the product, the storytelling does. Will these newly-elected commies lower prices? Of course not. Are they gonna get you free healthcare? No, your insurance is gonna get even worse, just like it did the last time they tried socialized medicine. They're not going to do anything they've sold you, but...like Saul Goodman said: if you're committed enough, you can make any story work. The committed storytelling of a couple insane podcasters was enough to fracture an entire political coalition from their own side in less than 2 years...they have zero power, zero credibility, they've never actually governed anything nor produced any results, but...they're good storytellers, and that's all that matters. Are they telling a good story? No, it's atrocious, but they're telling their atrocious story effectively and compellingly. It is 100% true that everything's too damn expensive, and we all know that inflated prices are always sticky. Does anyone know that it's entirely the result of shutting down the global economy over the flu and (both naive republicans and democrats) printing infinity dollars for several years? Nope...because nobody has effectively told that story, and it's an unsexy story to tell. "Free stuff!" is a VERY easy story to tell, and when everyone's gotta take out a second mortgage just to pay their insurance premiums, "free healthcare" is an unbeatable story. It doesn't matter that "free healthcare" doesn't exist and socialized medicine is a terrible product...it's not the product, it's the brand. And "FREE!" is a great brand. You can't get mad at people for having the financial literacy of a 9 year old. I mean, you can, but they outnumber you a million to one, so it's not going to be productive. You need to figure out how to make an unsexy story sexy, or else the "free stuff!" crowd is going to eat your lunch every time. If you give people a choice between earning a six pack on a treadmill or taking Ozempic, they're gonna choose Ozempic...they don't care about the side effects. If you give people a choice between fiscal discipline or free stuff...guess what they'll pick? They don't care about the side effects. With projected growth of 5%, the economy right now is stronger than it's been in generations. Is that the story you hear? Nope. Is that the vibe you feel? Absolutely not, especially when every time you fill up your gas tank, it feels like a diesel enema. It's not the product, it's the brand. A great product can fall into oblivion with bad messaging...a single bad review from one effective storyteller can tank a restaurant. The "influencer economy" is lucrative for a reason; everybody inherently understands the importance of effective storytelling...except the right. Zohran Mamdani gets it...he has an army of influencers on staff. In a perfect metaphor of this transitional phase of old guard vs new wave political messaging, Zohran nuked the Vice President into oblivion with maybe the biggest ratio in the history of the internet. By simply posting the subway assistant meme, Mamdani got 2 MILLION likes, quoting a post from the VP that had only 10K likes. If you're reading that sentence thinking "this is fucking ridiculous, you're talking about social media likes as political analysis now?"...you are the problem. Yes, this stuff matters. Rizz matters. The President did a masterful job of this kind of retail politics in his historic 2024 campaign...you can be angry that this is what politics has been reduced to, but you can either adapt or die. "No the problem is, you didn't deliver enough for the American people!" Are you a moron? Since when does anybody care about that? What have democrats delivered for Californians in the last 20 years? Unmitigated wildfires, homeless drug zombies everywhere, roads that look like Fallujah in 2004...people don't care about results. They think they care about results. That want you to believe they care about results, just as Nike wants you to believe their shoes are better than New Balance...but at the end of the day, all people really care about is the swoosh. Adapt or die.
Guys, I hate to break it to you, but most political advisors are so bafflingly incompetent, it would make your head spin. All the talented communicators go work in Hollywood or at Saatchi and Saatchi, and these political bros never tap these agencies for help...I've connected several campaigns with literally the best marketing geniuses in the game, got them discounted rates, even...and they just never even bothered calling. It truly feels like a lot of consultants and candidates just want to lose. You ever wonder how my ads went so massively viral, but there's not been a single candidate who's come close to it? It's their dumbass advisors. I didn't go with any political advisors, and they were SO mad about it. I partnered with a filmmaker and marketing wizard, instead of political grifters. Why? Because I wanted our messaging to be effective. Political ads suck. Nobody watches them. I wanted people to want to watch my ads. The fact that nobody else understands this is...I honestly don't know how to explain it, other than they want to lose. There are a bunch of candidates who love it when their party loses power. It takes all the heat off them, because then they can't be expected to pass legislation when they're in the minority, plus they can fundraise way better off of the rage when the opposition is running roughshod over the country. Baffling to watch.

In 1992, current Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy found himself seated next to Muhammad Ali. So he asked him: "Where did all the bragging come from? Were you always like that?" Ali leaned over and said quietly: "I was scared to death." Three decades later, Murphy just led the Milwaukee Brewers to a World Series championship. That Ali quote stuck with him, he realized: "We all are (scared). Who we kidding. Fear is part of it. If you learn to use it like fire, it can do a lot of great things. If you don't, it can burn your house down." Too often, we walk around with this idea that the best performers aren't scared. That they are relentless, alphas, who bulldoze through whatever they're feeling. It's BS. The greatest of all time felt fear. We all do. The point is how do we navigate and channel it. Feeling fear and knowing what to do with it are different things. For much of his early career he coached the other way entirely: hard, blunt, and, by his own account, driven by his focus on himself. He had real success with it, until he was forced to resign as a college coach in 2009. Then he went through a litany of minor league jobs. Along the way, with help from journaling and counseling he started to fundamentally change how he coached. One of the catalysts was becoming a parent. "And I started thinking about it like, every kid I coach is somebody's Kai Joseph. You know what I mean? Every kid I coach, they have parents who love their kid the way I love my kid... Wow, I've got to be a little mindful how I treat these guys." He eventually landed on a different definition of success: "This profession isn't about the wins and losses. This profession is about, how do I impact this person?" You can see that switch in how he's guided the Brewers to become the best team in baseball. It was there when he didn't go to his closer in a save opportunity, as Trevor Megill said, "We’re not here for egos, we’re here to win a ring.” It's there in his coaching philosophy for the team: He calls it love and discipline. In that order...not too dissimilar from how you parent... The Brewers are the World Series Champions. They did it with a closer who checked his ego, a first baseman nearly retired but returned for health insurance, and a manager who had to let go of the way that led him to early success and rebuild how he coached. In the actual arena, performance is messy. It's not the cheap slogans we're sold online. We're all afraid, even the greats. You have to figure out how to direct it. You have to care, but not so much that it feels life and death. You need discipline, but it's got to be founded on love. And sometimes you need a 67 year old coach who was a tyrant, let go, and had to find a new path...to lead a small market team to the top of the MLB.

The @NFL is ruined. Absolutely garbage week in and week out. Amazingly, the MLB has become a much more watchable sport, primarily because the players decide who wins and the right changes have been made to minimize the impact of horrible, and frankly, very biased officiating. – at Safety Harbor, FL

You don't understand anything happening in the US right now unless you read Elon Musk all the way through. When he says that by 2036 money won't matter anymore, most people hear a billionaire's provocation. I hear something else. Money is the fuel of every corruption system. Earmarked subsidies, public contracts negotiated behind closed doors, lobbies, front NGOs, regulatory rents. The day AI and robots produce more than humanity can consume, that lever disappears. And everyone who lives off that lever disappears with it. There are a lot of them. And they've understood perfectly. That's why we're now reading that Musk is preparing for "war" if Democrats take back Congress. He's not the one declaring war. It's an entire system that knows it's fighting for its survival. Because we're at a turning point in human history. And there are only two ways out. Either the Democrats win, and we enter 1984. A hyper-class that controls the AI models, the robot fleets, the data, the currency, and owns 99% of everything. Below them, the rest of humanity on life support, dependent on an income that can be granted and taken away. Klaus Schwab's Davos Forum summed up this world in one sentence: "You'll own nothing and you'll be happy." It's communism, except instead of promising equality, it embraces caste. And for the first time in history, a caste won't need the consent of the people to hold power: robots will do the policing, AI will do the surveillance. Or we build a new order founded on merit, freedom, and private property. Where everyone remains the owner of their life, their work, and their share of the abundance. Where the collective ambition isn't managing scarcity, but understanding the universe and colonizing the cosmos. That's Elon Musk's project. The technology is the same in both cases. What changes is who owns it. Choose carefully which world you want to live in. And beware of socialists who promise to share the pie: they always end up keeping the knife.
Elon Musk prepares for ‘wąr’ if Democrats regain control of Congress in November, per The Washington Post.

I’ve spent a few days thinking about the Tesla Roadster reveal and landed somewhere I haven’t seen much discussion. I’m neither a Tesla fanboy nor a Tesla hater. And I couldn’t care less whether what we saw technically qualifies as a flying car. Three takeaways: (1) The risk of that live demonstration going horribly wrong was real. Almost no CEO would willingly expose their company to that kind of public humiliation for a product with so little financial upside. Elon did. (2) That willingness to attempt the seemingly impossible is what makes Tesla special. It’s also arguably Elon’s greatest contribution to America. He’s helped bring back something we’ve lost. The American spirit of chasing big scary ideas that most people think are impossible. That mindset is spreading across a new generation of founders and its long term impact on America’s future could dwarf anything Tesla ever sells. I think this is deeply underappreciated. (3) Can we just acknowledge how insanely cool that moment was? We’ve reached a strange place culturally where even extraordinary feats of human ingenuity immediately become arguments about why they don’t count. Not everything needs to be a debate. Sometimes we should just be able to stand back together and marvel at what humans are capable of. I’ve been both bullish and critical of Tesla’s ambitions over the years. But watching Elon and his team push the boundaries of what’s possible reminds me why I’m glad we have him. Whether the Roadster ever makes Tesla a dollar or impacts $TSLA stock price is almost beside the point. We need more people willing to risk failure in pursuit of things the rest of us think are impossible. Because when they succeed we all win.

Top 10 S&P 500 companies by market cap as of today, Oct 16: $NVDA $5.23T $AAPL $5.04T $GOOGL $4.17T $MSFT $3.98T $AMZN $2.74T $SPCX $1.94T $META $1.85T $AVGO $1.61T $TSLA $1.46T $BRK.B $1.14T ($LLY just outside at $1.12T) Now look at that list again.... honestly.... how many of them actually MAKE something? Two. Tesla and SpaceX. That's it. They're the only two in the top 10 building end products AND controlling their own supply chain. Some of the others make things, sure, but not end-user products. And Apple? Apple designs it and hands it to a contract manufacturer. They don't own the supply chain. This is massively underappreciated. The factory is the product. People don't know what's coming. 🇺🇸 – at Safety Harbor, FL

No commercial value? Not only will demand for this car be off the charts, but Telsa is cemented as the dream car of every kid with an imagination. Absolutely epic. – at Safety Harbor, FL
Two takeaways from tonight’s Roadster event. 1. It was an engineering flex with no commercial value beyond embarrassing traditional car makers. 2. Elon can’t wait to bring $TSLA and $SPCX together.

So there's still been no collisions and only 1 near miss. It would appear by the chart (which is not a very good chart since it doesn't show what type of incidents have caused the most recent increase) that the increase is from Safety Concerns, which is completely subjective, and thereby subject to manipulation. Remarkable performance really. – at Safety Harbor, FL
🚘As the Cybercab fleet size grows in Austin (reportedly 300+), so do the reported incidents to the Austin government’s tracking. As of October 13, Tesla has passed the total for last month

Ouch. Worse than I thought. Might be time to buy some Delta puts. The only risk i thought was the $DAL CEO could always pivot, but this is not a position he likely pivots from. He's dug in like an Alabama tick. – at Safety Harbor, FL
CEO of Delta finally gave the reason they did not adopt Starlink: “We do not want to be with Elon Musk. Trust me.” Side note: at a different, earlier event, Ed also said that [Delta] did test with starlink, but did not want to partner with Elon. “If you know his reputation, it’s all true what they say about him.” @Delta didn't adopt Starlink because they do not care about their customers they only care about their political opinions and they are filled with bias hatred and beuracracy. They will be left behind and I will make sure I never personally fly Delta.

I have a secret for you. There really aren't that many Democrats. If there were, why is all their media going broke for lack of viewers? Why is the DNC broke? I think voter fraud is the ONLY way Democrats ever win swing districts. The root of voter fraud is mail-in ballots.
