Marxist philosopher Slavoj Žižek argues that the only two forces competing in American politics are MAGA populists and democratic socialists. The latter, he says, should “penetrate the Democratic Party” rather than establish a separate party, and focus on grassroots organizing across various states.

BREAKING: The average cost of a family’s annual health insurance premium in the US is up +$1,303 YoY, or +5%, to a record $28,303.
This marks the 4th consecutive annual increase of at least +$1,300.
Over this period, the average annual premium for family coverage has surged +$5,884, or +26%.
To put this into perspective, CPI inflation has risen +13% over the same period, or half as much.
Since 1999, the average health insurance premium for a family has soared +$22,494, or +387%.
This represents an average annual growth rate of +6.1%, well above CPI inflation at +2.6% over the same period.
Health insurance has never been more expensive.

This afternoon, we toured the infrastructure of occupation in the West Bank:
Settler outposts that uproot groves full of olive trees & steal Palestinian land.
Gates arbitrarily closed by Israeli forces, forcing Palestinian villages to transfer construction supplies and bulk goods by hand.
Separation barriers that divide communities, and sometimes fully surround a single house.
Segregated roads for Palestinians and Israelis.
Features of apartheid, as B’tselem, Amnesty, Human Rights Watch, Yesh Din and the ICJ rightly identify.
It’s long past time to stop the settlements and end the occupation. Great Britain recently announced a settlement trade ban & sanctions. Congress should pass @JoaquinCastrotx's bill to do the same.

Yes, Brad Lander should have coordinated with Israeli forces. Just look at how well they've treated their partners who follow the rules in the past!
This was not about harvesting olives.
It was about harvesting headlines.
Brad Lander’s latest stunt is nothing more than a calculated political provocation.
Lander traveled to a foreign country, deliberately entered a restricted security area, and participated in an unauthorized activity without the required coordination.
What makes this stunt even more outrageous is that his own team contacted Israeli representatives in the United States ahead of his visit and was explicitly informed that proper coordination with the relevant authorities was required.
He chose to ignore those instructions.
At a time of heightened security tensions, Israeli security forces have a responsibility to protect lives, prevent dangerous incidents, and maintain public order.
Had anyone been injured as a result of his reckless political theater, Lander would undoubtedly have been among the first to demand that Israeli authorities intervene and provide protection.
Brad Lander came looking for a confrontation. Now he is pretending to be its victim.

I obtained 140 pages of internal State Department emails from when I was being imprisoned and interrogated by the IDF. The correspondence reveals that U.S. officials referred to me as “kidnapped” by the Israeli military while explicitly refusing to consider me "wrongfully detained." Officials were informed of day-long interrogations and made aware of my detention in a notoriously abusive Israeli prison. The emails show no U.S. effort to intervene on my behalf, only a focus on PR and limiting political fallout.

This is an insanely important development: Mark Zuckerberg and Meta are preparing to restructure the company so that Zuckerberg can pay the 5% one-time wealth tax he would owe if the billionaire tax passes in November.
He has said he would leave the state. He obviously was bluffing. That's $10 billion to California's education and health system. Just from him. Jensen Huang has also said he'd stay, that's another roughly $10 billion.
To be sure, some small number of billionaires will leave California, but most won't. What this also shows if that it is done on a national level, billionaires will fight it, but will ultimately fall in line.

Second — and that’s where things get extremely interesting.
Proposition 40 — the proposed one-time 5% wealth tax on California billionaires — is mentioned no fewer than 25 times in the SEC document.
@Meta explicitly states that one purpose of its new stock issuance is to allow Mark Zuckerberg to pay the billionaire wealth tax.
“… so that he may pay his potential tax liability under California Proposition 40, if enacted into law.”
Here’s how it will work.

I've always said there's a non-zero chance this mess ends up with the military.
The Washington Post reports that ten current and former Defense Department officials, across the political spectrum, have been quietly meeting with leaders in at least ten states to prepare for Trump refusing to accept the midterm results.
That is where we are now: national security officials defending American elections from an American president.

my opponent didn't wanna cover the real issues like gas prices so I accused her of lying about being raped at the age of 12 is an insane way to close out a failing campaign.

This clarity is so important. This akin to Zohran's 'no apartheid state has a right to exist' moment. It moves the goal posts & permanently changes the conversation. Good on AES. Stay the course.
I also appreciate that he didn't fall for the 'Bibi's the real problem' misdirect.

Went on BBC Politics Live to discuss why Zionism is a racist ideology. The anchor and all three panelists looked like they were about to cry at the end. Very weird behaviour.

💢 Among the Israelis who attacked Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine is the reservist filmed last year ramming his ATV into a Palestinian man as he prayed by the road, Israeli Channel 13 reporter Yossi Eli reported.
The reservist ran over the man in Deir Jarir in December 2025, after firing shots in the area, the Israeli military said at the time. The army ended his service, and Israeli media reported his punishment was being held under house arrest for five days. He was later released, and no indictment was ever filed against him, Eli reported.
Israeli police say they have arrested 10 suspects over the weekend attacks on Levine and European diplomats.

The US affordability crisis is worsening:
Food prices have surged +34.5% since December 2019, now at their highest level on record.
Rent and grocery prices have risen +33.3% and +30.0%, respectively.
Furthermore, motor vehicle maintenance and repair prices have soared +55.2% over the same period.
Meanwhile, prices for services excluding rent, including medical care, transportation, education, communication, and recreation, have increased +29.2% since December 2019.
As a result, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has risen +30.4%.
Basic necessities are becoming increasingly unaffordable in the US.
This is a bad sign, because people stop paying their car note last, for obvious reasons. Auto loan delinquencies going up mean people have tried everything else to get by first and are now at risk of losing their ride.
BREAKING: America’s $1.7 trillion auto loan market is headed for a crash, per Reuters.
Auto loans are now one of the biggest sources of household debt, bigger than credit cards.
And the strain is showing: 1 in 5 Americans is behind on at least one loan, the highest since 2010, and the average car on the road is now nearly 13 years old, a record.
