People are supposedly running entire businesses with AI agents.
I'm trying to get OpenAI's dot to use an API for a few background checks. It keeps giving me instructions to do the work myself.
We're shipping these things before they're reliable enough to delegate to.
How much of the “autonomous business” demo is someone babysitting it off camera?
making a dot from your phone means it gets made in small free moments
the next thing to watch is whether people keep these dots alive after the first week or just forget them like old apps

the goal isn’t to spend your whole day chatting with AI.
it’s to have AI that can help you get things done while you focus on other stuff.
chatgpt is making this more practical with customizable agents on mobile, task follow-ups, chat context, and automations.
you can create your agent, give it a name, customize it, and set it as your default conversation.
we’re moving from asking AI for help to building a workflow around it.
and i think that’s worth paying attention to.
Dot is the first proactive personal agent that I’m finding valuable. Within a few days of use my dot has replaced a dozen one-off apps and agents that I’ve built over the past year.

Slightly confusing message but I presume it's just to highlight these features to people who don't know. Your Dots can interact with your Codex threads. So you can command them to do work inside work in chat mode.
This has been the case since launch, though potentially quite buggy. Presuming this is a fix. The other updates are most welcome. 🙏

I keep thinking about how many little tasks get lost between ChatGPT chats and Codex.
but having a dot i can set up from my phone and ask to pick up where i left off would save me a lot of back and forth.

Your AI agent just moved into your pocket.
OpenAI’s “dots” (ChatGPT’s always-on agents) can now be set up straight from your phone.
Until now, you had to sit at a computer to create one. Now it takes a few taps in the ChatGPT app on iOS or Android:
→ Name your dot and pick how it looks
→ Connect the tools it needs, or skip that for later
→ Start handing it work from anywhere
Two things to know before you try it:
• It’s on Pro, Business Premium and Enterprise plans, and it’s rolling out gradually, so you might not see it yet.
• Giving your dot access to your own computer’s files still needs the ChatGPT desktop app.
The bigger shift: AI agents are going from “a tool you open” to “a teammate you carry.”

OpenAI’s latest dots update connects more of the context around a task.
A dot can search ChatGPT conversations and use information from existing Codex threads and automations. OpenAI also reports improvements in choosing whether to continue a thread or begin a new one.
Mobile setup is now available on iOS and Android.
Keeping related work together could be consequential for longer projects, where earlier decisions and unfinished steps are easy to lose between conversations.
