I don’t know a better place than this still to get words out so…

The person from the audience shouting about coffee cups and donuts to @jonlovett will probably end up doing more for topology’s popularity than most of us ever can.
“Chern character on infinity vector bundles” joint w/ M Miller, T Tradler, & M Zeinalian
arxiv.org/abs/2211.02549
This paper has been a long time coming. The intro is meant to be friendly and I think much better than any thread I could put together 😅 so give it a read
Follow up to convo yesterday with @tim_hosgood: I see the definition of homotopy groups for a Kan complex has that representatives of pi_n are maps of delta^n whose boundary is a point. I want the definition to instead be “maps of simplicial sets homotopy equiv to a sphere”…
Is there a preferred reference for the definition of (co)birth and (co)death in persistent **CO**homology other than the PhD thesis from 2011 I found? #TDA
Opinions wanted: if an unpublished paper is on the arXiv but you want/need the results to be “referenceable”, then to what extent is it appropriate to try to publish a new paper which gives the unpub. paper all the credit but adds helpful details and applications?
Bit of personal news:
I’m incredibly excited to be starting a new TT position at SUNY New Paltz in Fall 2022!!
(1/3)
I’m also incredibly grateful for the people I worked closely with over my 7 years at St Joe’s. I felt privileged to have earned associate and tenure there, but more importantly I grew and learned a lot about what it means to be a faculty member at a teaching institution…

Four of my awesome students presented at #JMM2022 last week but my brain was too scrambled to share.
I’m so proud of them. A thread on my recollection of what they learned in case it inspires others…
“Visualizing the mathematics of quantum computing using Qiskit”
kind of like doing a seemingly not-so-bad classical computation but with only the universal gates!! At this point, they got stuck but they are still learning this language and hopefully can complete some more pieces over the summer…
If you made it this far, wow. I think linear algebra applications are awesome undergrad research projects so hopefully this inspires others.
Thanks for reading! Here was their JMM page: meetings.ams.org/math/jmm202…
