Classix (@classix_dev) will be at #Devcon8 and at the Ethereum Cypherpunk Congress the day before.
Join em right after for the $ETC Mumbai meetup nearby. 🍻
Details below 👇🏻
This year’s Ethereum Cypherpunk Congress theme is The Ancestral Fork.
For a chain that kept running after a fork ten years ago, that’s hard to pass up. We’ll be at the Congress in Mumbai on Nov 2, and here’s why.
At TOKEN2049, Josh Swihart (@jswihart) pitched Zcash as a parallel polis: new institutions built beside the old ones. That’s $ETC’s story too. In 2016, a small group disagreed with the hard fork and kept the original chain running beside #Ethereum.
We’re also there to listen. Most ETC upgrades bring in Ethereum’s EIPs, so Ethereum’s research and tooling carry over to ETC. #Devcon8 is where the people behind that work will be.
Come find us, then join our #EthereumClassic meetup nearby once the Congress wraps. Any chain, any background.
What’s one question you’d want us to ask the people there? Reply and we’ll bring it.
RSVP below.

Integrating post-quantum cryptography and native stablecoins into Ethereum Classic preserves its immutable security foundation while unlocking the institutional-grade settlement utility required for long-term survival

Soft forks tighten the rules so old nodes still follow, while hard forks can split a coin in two. The guide covers SegWit, Taproot, the Ethereum Classic and Bitcoin Cash splits, and what holders should do around a fork.

10 years ago this week, #EthereumClassic made its first hard fork as an independent chain.
ECIP-1015: the fix for the 2016 Shanghai spam attacks, three months after ETC refused to fork over The DAO.
Fork to upgrade technology. Never to redirect funds.

Not to undo a hack. To fix a bug.
ECIP-1015 stopped the 2016 Shanghai spam attacks, three months after ETC said no to forking over The DAO.
10 years and running.

Of the seven largest proof-of-work chains by market cap, only one runs the EVM: #EthereumClassic.
If you build in Solidity and want proof-of-work underneath with substantial hashrate behind it, the list starts and ends there.
Same contracts. Same tooling. Chain ID 61.

Not one day in September went by without a new smart contract deployed on #EthereumClassic.
• Total: 1,309
• Daily average: ~44
• Busiest day: 10 Sept, 142
Same EVM you already build on. From our public BigQuery dataset. The query is in the reply.

Plenty of people call #EthereumClassic “the old Ethereum" - a relic.
It’s really a computer no one owns:
→ Programs, data and a processor
→ Run by nodes all over the world
→ Powering dApps, smart contracts and is a store-of-value
No company to shut it down. No admin to change the rules.🍀

The 2016 fork split the chain. It didn’t split the research.
ETC upgrades keep bringing in Ethereum EIPs: Byzantium with Atlantis, Istanbul with Phoenix, most recently Shanghai with Spiral.
#Ethereum’s research makes $ETC better, and every EIP that crosses over gets a second life on proof of work.
We’d like more ideas to cross the fork in both directions.

#EthereumClassic is the largest proof-of-work blockchain that runs native L1 smart contracts.
Sounds technical. Here’s what it actually means for you:
If you hold crypto:
Your coins live on a chain secured by real-world energy and hardware, not by a pool of stakers who can be pressured, regulated, or captured.
Fixed supply. No surprise monetary policy changes. No committee deciding your money is worth less this year.
Hard money, like #Bitcoin. But it does more.
If you build:
On Bitcoin, the most you can really do on-chain is move coins from A to B. Smart contracts get bolted on through sidechains and bridges, which are exactly the weak points that get exploited.
On $ETC, your app runs inside proof-of-work security.
Not on a sidechain. Not behind a bridge. Inside.
Same EVM tools you already know. Stronger foundation underneath.
If you just don’t want to get locked in:
A lot of networks are easy to join today and easy to control tomorrow. The more stake concentrates, the fewer doors need knocking on.
Proof-of-work doesn’t have a front door to knock on.
Your transactions go through because miners compete to include them. Nobody needs to approve them.
So why isn’t everyone talking about this?
Because markets price narratives first and fundamentals later. Right now the loudest narratives have the biggest marketing budgets.
Fundamentals don’t need a budget. They just need time.
When it matters who can censor you, who can freeze you, and who can change the rules on you, people go looking for the chain where the answer is “no one.”
Proof-of-work + fixed supply + native smart contracts.
Programmable Digital Gold.

Most chains compete on speed.
Some compete on fees.
A few compete on features.
#EthereumClassic competes on one thing:
It can't stop. Won't stop.
No pauses. No rollbacks. No off switch.

I wrote this guide for someone like me, a non-programmer, who still wants to contribute to the #EthereumClassic network.
It’s as simple as I could make it, basically: what you need, how to build core-geth from source, and how to talk to your node once it’s built.

#Bitcoin proved proof-of-work money works.
#Ethereum made it programmable.
#Zcash keeps pushing proof-of-work forward on privacy and payment speed.
#EthereumClassic added zk-proof verification in 2019, and is still learning from all three.
That’s proof-of-work symbiosis.

Running your own node is the difference between believing the chain and knowing it.
No third party. No API key. No one in between.
It’s the most underrated thing anyone in this community can do.
