Leaves in the street don’t just make a mess. They also pollute our water! Leaves washed into storm drains release nutrients that feed harmful algae blooms🦠 Keep leaves off pavement and out of storm drains and mulch responsibly on grassy areas.
Whether you’re running a warehouse, auto shop, or manufacturing facility—how and where you store your materials matters. Spills, leaks, and poorly stored supplies can send harmful pollutants straight into storm drains and nearby waterways.
Leaky cars do more than stain driveways. They drip oil, antifreeze, and other nasty stuff that rain can wash straight into storm drains. From there, it heads right into rivers, ponds, and streams. No filters. No warning. Just pollution. Keep your car and our water running clean!
From oil to chemicals, industrial sites handle materials that can pollute local waterways if spilled. Even small leaks and drips can cause big problems when rain carries them into storm drains.
It's that time of year when pools start to get drained. Make sure you do so safely and responsibly by dechlorinating your pool first. Chlorine doesn't belong in our rivers!
Oil drips, trash, sediment, and spilled chemicals can be picked up by rainwater and carried straight into storm drains. From there, it enters local rivers and lakes. Routine maintenance helps meet environmental regulations and keeps pollutants out of our waterways.
Maintaining BMPs (Best Management Practices) is key for effective stormwater management. Keeping BMPs in good condition helps to reduce flooding and clean runoff before it enters water bodies.
Commercial irrigation systems can waste thousands of gallons of water—and send fertilizers, pesticides, and sediment into nearby storm drains. By adopting smart irrigation practices, businesses can conserve water, protect infrastructure, and reduce pollution.
Your septic system plays a critical role in treating wastewater—but if it’s not properly maintained, it can leak harmful bacteria and nutrients into our groundwater, rivers, and streams. That’s pollution you can’t always see, but it adds up fast.
Keeping soil in place protects more than just your project. It helps keep our watershed in Braintree clean. Cover bare soil with mulch or seed. Use perimeter controls to trap sediment before it leaves your site. Keep things clean, simple, and stormwater smart.
This weekend, we tabled at the @joshuakayefoundation 's Family Fun Festival. Residents learned about the impact of dog waste on water quality, and we distributed several hundred biodegradable doggie bags! Thank you for having us.
On April 29th, the Stormwater Division distributed rain barrels to residents of Braintree. Rain barrels are a great way to save water and reduce stormwater runoff. Plus, gardens absolutely love them! Thank you to everyone who came out to pick one up.
When leaves and grass get dumped or swept to the curb, rain can carry them into storm drains, feeding algae blooms in nearby lakes and streams. Instead, compost yard waste. Mulch it. Use it like the garden gold it is.
