Enjoy Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal. We were the laughing stock of football. Turned us into English Champions. Respected in Europe. Our fanbase has not had it this good since Prime Wenger. No one will ever stop me from fully backing Mikel. Gaffer!!!!! Hope the good times last forever.

I thought I was reading about North Korea or Iran, but no, this is Hegseth’s Pentagon. A publicly live streamed firing squad? After the Christa Pike debacle? Revolting for the world’s leading democracy, no matter the crime. nytimes.com/2026/10/08/us/po…

City shaped the market with their spending. They shaped the league with their unprecedented dominance. They shaped the Champions League by knocking teams out year in, year out. They put a HUGE blemish on fairness for nearly two decades. They deserve the most heinous punishment.

It's going to be September now for many years to come, many hearts adjusting to that strict September drum. I see the ghost of culture with numbers on his wrist salute some new conclusion that all of us have missed. So let's drink to when it's over, and let's drink to when we meet. I'll be waiting on this corner where there used to be a street. — Leonard Cohen

Pritzker: I have to worry about whether people can eat lettuce or blueberries off a grocery shelf because Trump is doing away with food inspections. I have to track measles outbreaks because the president put a madman in charge of vaccine recommendations. I have to monitor the movements of ICE agents because he handed guns to people who couldn’t pass a background check, frankly, to work in an animal shelter. I have to find money that we don’t have to fight problems that didn’t exist before Donald Trump. It’s the reality of being a governor in America today. I’m not the only one.

Since David Smith, chairman of Sinclair, bought The Baltimore Sun in 2024, the paper has lost its status as Maryland's paper of record—that's now The Baltimore Banner. Smith may go after Moore via Sinclair and its TV affiliates, but really doubt it'll impact any 2028 aspirations.
The Baltimore ‘Sun’s letters-to-the-editor column last week featured a vigorous defense of the newspaper’s monthslong investigation of Maryland governor Wes Moore’s military service. The letter blasted a critic, saying he “offered indignation and diversion while totally avoiding the evidence at the center of the investigation,” and noted that the ‘Sun’ failed to tell its readers that he has a role in Moore’s administration. The author of the August 6 “reader commentary,” however, wasn’t just another steamed ‘Sun’ subscriber: It was Drew Sullins, who happens to be the lead analyst and principal writer of the Moore stories. In effect, the ‘Sun’ permitted Sullins to act as judge, jury, and executioner of his own work. Sullins’s letter was unusual, if not unprecedented. To Moore’s camp, the letter illustrated the lengths the venerable newspaper and an allied consortium of media partners has gone to smear the Democratic governor, who is expected to handily win reelection in November and seen as a serious 2028 presidential contender. The intent, they suggest, is to take down Moore before he even decides upon seeking higher office. Moore — and some former ‘Sun’ journalists — say the animus toward the governor is driven by the paper’s principal owner, David D. Smith, a wealthy conservative who bought a majority stake in the newspaper in 2024. Moore has accused the ‘Sun’ of “slander and misinformation” and has suggested that Smith is directly shaping the coverage. Moore even suggested in a June MS NOW interview that Smith had ties to Jeffrey Epstein, the late convicted sex offender, a claim that prompted Smith to sue Moore for defamation last month. In the same interview, Moore asserted that Smith said that “the job of the Sun is to do Donald Trump’s work,” which Smith denies. Thanks, but I’d rather just ignore distress signals at sea from my maga-yacht.
Modern billionaires are just so tacky. Go endow a library. Fund research and get your name on a cancer center. Sponsor an eccentric polymath who’s obsessed with marble. Build a museum. Fund public parks. Back climate research. Create something that outlives your ego.

Best thing: you’re a short ride from #Donostia aka #SanSebastian, the greatest town in that coast (or any other)
The French Basque coast is one of the most underrated rivieras in Europe. Everyone in France knows it. Almost nobody outside France does. That's changing. I had dinner with a French friend from the South and we talked about this area. People are choosing it over Nice and the Riviera. I'm a Mediterranean guy with a bias, but I understand it. Green cliffs, serious surf (for those who love it), charming villages that look drawn by hand. It's more elegant than the Spanish side, which has the bigger cities and the energy. Still, Bayonne and Biarritz give you enough city life, hospitals, an airport. It still surprises me how some villages here, like Guéthary, essentially cost more per square meter than Nice. If it wasn't for the rain I'd consider it myself and I can see why people would take it over the South of France every time. Bayonne is the name I keep hearing. Probably the most underrated pick of all. Have you ever considered the French Basque coast?
