When adversity is thrown your way, you face it w/ a positive mindset & put in the work. My son has to wear a cranial band for a few months to correct the curve on the back of his head. What better way to prepare him for baseball season @Reds @PeteRose_14

BINGO
the wildest thing about coaching young kids in the 8-11 range is when you run into them three or four years later
that slow, small kid who couldn't kick a soccer ball?
he's 5'5", confident and lightning fast now
the short, uncoordinated kid who couldn't catch a football?
he's 5'9" at 13, has huge hands and a sick vertical.
parents, please, chill on the U12 youth sports pressure
it ALL changes once they hit puberty. genetics, man.

learn to disappoint people.
say no without a paragraph.
leave without explaining.
rest without guilt.
the ones who matter will adjust. the ones who don't were only there for your compliance.

Unsolicited #parenting advice: when adversity enters your child’s life you can remove the adversity or strengthen your child. RARELY both. One choice warps their growth, the other accelerates it. Choose carefully.

We gave 10U teams professional uniforms, national schedules, private trainers, ranking services, media days, and commitment graphics.
Then we wondered why children started believing every game was a career decision.
The kids did not commercialize childhood.
The adults living vicariously through them simply sent the invoice.

Brutal Truths Nobody Prepares You For
1. People change. Sometimes for the better. Sometimes for good.
2. You’ll outgrow people you thought would be in your life forever.
3. The more real you are, the fewer people will like you.
4. Your absence will teach them what your presence never could.
5. Family can be toxic too.
6. The world only respects results, not effort.
7. Forgiveness doesn’t always mean reconnecting.
8. Some people only apologize to fix their guilt — not your pain.
9. You’ll be judged no matter what you do.
10. Happiness is an inside job. No one can give it to you.

“The only thing an old man can tell a young man is that it goes fast, real fast, and if you’re not careful it’s too late. Of course, the young man will never understand this truth.”

You hear this phrase a lot “my kid is losing confidence” anytime their kid is in a challenging spot in sports…
You know how you become confident?? Overcoming challenges and making the once challenging environment the norm.
Throw your kids to the wolves and let them struggle. And outside of that obsess over the work.
Unreal stat.
6-50 in a league where 4th qtr comebacks and craziness happen every Sunday. I guess it just doesn’t happen with Cincy.

Joe Mazulla says the best coaches he had were just willing to be brutally honest
“To me, they’re honest with you, whether you’re good or whether you suck. They're in it for the right reasons. To see kids get better. But they're honest with you on whether you're good or whether you suck.”
“I remember I had a bad game in AAU and my coach came up to me and was like, ‘Man, you suck today.’ The guy you went against just kicked your ass, but… he’s going to make it one day and so are you.”
“They’re able to be honest with you, but also give you the encouragement or the perspective that you need to go forward. They never let you settle being yourself.”
“They hold you accountable to the person that you say you want to be or the person that they think you can become. That’s a space that many people aren’t willing to go to. At any level, that's what good coaches are.”

Bill Parcells shares the difference between winners and losers.
"Losers assemble in little groups and complain about the coaches and the players in other little groups."
"But winners assemble as a team."
Winners don't point fingers and they don't make excuses.
They dedicate themselves to personal excellence and team excellence.
They commit to the team, bringing a positive attitude, and doing the work.
