People always ask college coaches “What are you looking for” …. Show me the kid who competes, who’s plugged in to their teammates, constant motion and talk on defense, calm confidence at the plate. #playwithheart #wineverypitch

Team standards beat team rules.
Three I’d write on day one:
1. Be on time (15 minutes early)
2. Do what's right (if you can't do it in front of me or your parents, don't do it)
3. Treat others how you want to be treated (life lesson)
These 3 standards help a team, an individual, and a quality life lesson.

Every hitter, coach, man, woman, child, or beast should watch this. He touches on so many things that many former players have been shouting about for years now. "A swings" & "B swings". "Approach". "Situations" & "adjustability". He indirectly speaks about the dangers of highlights, incentives, and how he already was able to hit the ball hard before he changed HIS definition of success.
Especially listen to what he says at the end right before, "...now you're dangerous". Wonder if this will be as popular as his interview with Mark Derosa from 2016...

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. 🤍
There are losses that change you in ways people can’t always see.
A baby you never got to bring home.
A pregnancy that ended too soon.
A tiny life that existed, was loved, and mattered; even if only for a short time.
Pregnancy and infant loss isn’t something you simply “get over.” You learn to carry it. Some days it’s quiet. Other days, a date, a memory, a name, or a thought can bring it all rushing back.
So today, I’m holding space for the parents who had to say goodbye far too soon.
Your baby mattered.
Your grief is valid.
And you are still a parent. 🤍
For every little life loved and lost: you are remembered.

Kids complain about road trips while holding an iPad. I used to stare out the window for six hours and hope we passed a cow.

Success doesn’t give you permission to lower your standard.
It gives you a responsibility to uphold it.
It suddenly became an off weekend so I’m back with another Coach’s Thought…but it’s been a while so this one will be a thread.
🧵 (3/5) Season 28 around the corner & I’m still learning & growing, because I WANT to & OWE it to my team & colleagues. If we expect our players to be coachable, we need to be coachable too. Read, go to clinics, listen to podcasts, learn from coaches in other sports.

Accountability is the most uncomfortable gift anyone will give you. Some people may hate you for it in the moment. Give it anyway. They'll thank you in the distance. Or they won't. Either way, you told the truth.

unpopular opinion - why would you publicize scores in a fall game when it is free substitution, time limit, and the other coach is playing everybody on their roster. People are gonna stop scrimmaging you in the fall if you don’t treat them with respect. there are no wins ,losses or sweeps in fall ball that should be on Twitter, Facebook Instagram. I said what i said
