(see qualifiers in the Notes section)
In 3 of the last 4 years, the preseason-final poll turnover is over 50% and the trend since 1989 (the Top 25 era) is gradually increasing. (corrected link)

In 2024, 13 of 25 teams in final @AP_Top25 poll began the year unranked. Their final rankings:
7-Arizona State
8-Boise State
10-Indiana
12-SMU
13-BYU
15-Iowa State
16-Illinois
19-South Carolina
20-Syracuse
21-Army
23-UNLV
24-Memphis
25-Colorado
Looks like everything is up and running. #fingerscrossed
Here's what I found. See link to this week's poll for a similar note.

Actually, almost half of USC's appearances happened from 2003-08, so they actually moved up to #2 on the list in that period...

For those wanting to see the full list, here it is (with a minor correction: There are ** 9 ** instances)...
Since moving to 25 teams in 1989, there have been 8 instances (out of 535 polls excluding 2020) where teams ranked #11 or higher dropped out of the @AP_Top25 poll following a loss.
Three of those 8 have occurred in each of the first 3 weeks of this season (Oregon, ND, Mich St).
