Climate change is a health threats multiplier. This #WorldEnvironmentDay‌, I echo @richardhorton1’s call to the whole health sector community to strongly advocate for keeping fossil fuels in the ground, and ensuring health is at the centre of #ClimateAction.

Very constructive meeting with Health Minister @MekdesDaba about the health situation in #Ethiopia. I’m glad that primary health care remains the backbone of the health system, and I assured the Minister of @WHO’s commitment to support strengthening the health workforce, health financing, routine immunization, and bringing malaria and cholera outbreaks under control. We also discussed 🇪🇹’s interest and potential to invest in local production of medical products. I used the opportunity to thank the Minister for 🇪🇹’s active participation in the International Health Regulations Amendments and the #PandemicAccord negotiations. I asked the Minister to ensure WHO and humanitarian partners have access to deliver health aid in all conflict areas across the country.

#WHA77 delegates agreed yesterday on the following new resolutions: - Recognizing climate change as an imminent threat to global health; - Supporting countries to restructure their economies to serve the health of people and the planet; - Strengthening health and well-being through sporting events - we thank #Qatar for their leadership; - Health emergency in #Ukraine and the refugee crisis; - Managing emergency preparedness for disasters resulting from natural hazards.
