Less than 200 signatures to go! Help us meet and exceed the goal for Iowa's Summer EBT petition!
SUN Bucks — FKA as Summer EBT — would help 245,000 Iowa children avoid hunger during the summer when school meals aren't available. Iowa didn't participate in Summer EBT in '24, but a spokesperson told KCCI-TV the state hasn’t decided about 2025.

65% of the more than 1.6 million uninsured adults in the coverage gap are people of color, reflecting ethnic and racial disparities in health coverage — Congress should prioritize closing the coverage gap. cbpp.org/research/health/clo…

Understand the point Todd is making, but current legislative salaries do discourage many people from running for office. If you want more lawmakers who are not independently wealthy, retired, or farmers, it's important to make it feasible for working-age people with kids.
No worries. Unlike kids, Iowa lawmakers won't go hungry

I’m feeling more indignant than rational after watching this Republican-controlled Statehouse regime operate, too often with contempt, callousness and cruelty toward its fellow Iowans. thegazette.com/staff-columni…

Least surprising news ever. For years, #ialegis leaders have been budgeting for tax breaks, disproportionately for the wealthiest Iowans, at the expense of our common needs and aspirations. commongoodiowa.org/blog/2023…
Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and Statehouse Republicans said they planned to pursue more tax cuts in the upcoming legislative session, after the governor’s office announced Iowa ended the fiscal year with a $1.83 billion surplus. #ialegis iowacapitaldispatch.com/2023… via @IowaCapDispatch

This is just dumb.
We have a problem that is, calories are cheap and nutrition is expensive. This does nothing to improve nutrition or make it less expensive but will ensure that children will go hungry in Iowa this summer.

Lower income families will not get additional $40 per month in federal summer food assistance after @IAGovernor ends months of speculation and announces late this afternoon that she will not allow state to participate. Iowa would have had to pay $2+ million administrative costs.
Iowa declines to participate in Summer EBT program. @IAGovernor says covid-era relief is not sustainable and does not promote nutrition at a time when childhood obesity has become an epidemic. #ialegis #IaGov

Important CR issue that shouldn’t be overlooked: Speaker Johnson’s CR plan doesn’t provide additional #WIC funding so that postpartum participants & young children aren’t turned away from vital food assistance.

Passing a budget is one of the essential responsibilities of Congress. Allowing a partial government shutdown is terrible way of doing business that causes avoidable uncertainty and hardship. Here's a summary of some of the likely effects in Iowa. commongoodiowa.org/blog/2023…
