Before joining Loaded, around 2000-2001, Daubney was the editor of page3.com (The Sun’s online Page 3 site). During his time as Loaded editor, the lad’s mag increased its depiction of female nudity compared with a few years earlier. Standard industry practices for news vendors were revised in March 2006 after an agreement between the National Federation of Retail Newsagents and the Home Office, following concerns that lads’ mags were within the reach of children. As a result, Loaded was displayed on the top shelf next to copies of Penthouse and other pornographic magazines. Circulation declined: in the first six months of 2007, Loaded recorded a 35% drop compared with the first half of 2006. Also in 2007, Daubney organised a “Straight Pride” march in London. He stated at the time that heterosexuality was being “undermined” and had become “unfashionable.” In the May 2008 issue, the editorial team had to print an apology to Heinz after claiming in an earlier issue that Heinz had produced a version of Alphabetti Spaghetti especially for the German market that consisted solely of tiny pasta shaped as swastikas. In 2016 Daubney spoke at the International Conference on Men’s Issues in London (topic: “Pornography and the demonisation of young men”). The event was associated with A Voice for Men (founded by Paul Elam) and organised with involvement from figures in the men’s rights/manosphere scene. Hope not Hate and other sources have highlighted this as linking him to that milieu; Elam and others at such events have used deliberately provocative and sometimes violent-sounding language.
