..but now that we know her stepfather was indeed charged with rape (and fled to avoid conviction - this was far easier 50 years ago with statue of limitations) I'd say that is the worst ad of history.

I've never really understood the disdain for Vivek Ramaswamy. The new ad with Amy Acton's abusive mom has fixed that. If I were an Ohioan, that alone would be enough to swing my vote. No normal, well-adjusted human being with a basic understanding of social cues would do that.

Hard to overstate how much the Amy Acton Mom ad is what the modern GOP is about. All these anxieties about how people (especially women and children) might use their agency to break bonds of filial duty and free themselves, rather than be subject to control and abuse.
We sort of satirize them as the “you can’t groom my kids, that’s MY job!” Party, but this ad is very nearly that explicit argument. They don’t want schools to empower young people to find the autonomy to come out as gay or trans, they don’t want colleges to teach young adults about the breadth of the world and the human dignity of people from diverse backgrounds, they don’t want women to have financial independence and jobs and no-fault divorce.
At the heart of the GOP is this very straightforward premise: “there are some people whom it is my right to abuse. They are my property, and they owe me total obedience; freeing themselves from my abuse is a betrayal of natural hierarchy and divine law. You are trying to take my victims away from me, and I’ll do anything to stop you.”

Acton releases a response from her brother, which makes me think this will become even more of a backfire. Vivek has simultaneously elevated the horrific story of her upbringing, framed her as someone who's overcome unthinkable horror, and painted himself as a sleeze

You don't weaponize someone's personal history of being a victim of abuse against them — and then shift gears and gaslight everyone about the situation — unless you, yourself, have an abusive personality.
That is Vivek Ramaswamy and the Ohio Republican Party.
This woman lost custody of her child at age 12 due to abuse and the GOP thinks its a win to trot her out and attack her daughter who is running for governor.
This is sick stuff.
I am happy to support @DonCKissick who would never stoop so low for votes.
A disgusting ploy by the GOP who once again stand with those who abuse children.
