“Firefox is just a browser it’s not a personal assistant or some kind of advisor, I type a URL you do your job and go there and stay out of the way” - a frustrated user recently said on Reddit. What happened? Well, the frustration erupted after Firefox refused to open a normal web link when typed into the address bar. The browser took them to a search results page for the URL instead. @DCubbins from our team explains: "It turns out this happens because of how the search switcher works on the left side of the address bar. If you accidentally click that icon and pick a different search engine, or hit the Control and K shortcut on your keyboard, Firefox locks itself into search mode" We tested it on our end, and can confirm this behavior. A Mozilla engineer has since responded to the frustrated user, acknowledging that this behavior is "confusing."
