So Tesla does a demo of a car that climbs vertical, stops at the top of a loop, FLIES DOWN, then jumps some trucks doing a kick flip, and casually breaks the 1 second zero to sixty acceleration barrier...
Okay, that's some cool shit. Yes, we argue over the commercial practicality, but you've got to admit from just the sci-fi tech demo sense, that's wild.
So I scroll through the interwebs and the conservatives I know are gleeful and making jokes about flying cars, and the smart people are thinking through possible applications, limitations, and ways this wild shit could or could not get used in real life. The really smart people are arguing about engineering, but regardless everybody is like "damn, that's cool."
Meanwhile all the comments from terminally online liberals are crying about Elon's politics. All they can do is focus on one dude disagreeing with them. They can't get past it. All they can do is minimize. They have no imagination. No excitement. It's just so sad. They're so SMALL.
So the conversations are like-
"Wow they just did some Matchbox stuff with an actual car."
"That's nothing. You're stupid. Elon supports Germany's AfD party. I am offended. You should have more critical thinking like me."
And sadly that's a paraphrase not an exaggeration. I just saw that one on Ron F's page. :D

The problem is the conversation is largely dominated by puritans and porn addicts. Hyposexuals vs. hypersexuals.
The puritans are emboldened because the largest and loudest voice opposing them are openly, loudly fetishistic and permissive of absolutely everything. And if you even try and take a more moderate stance of "the proliferation of fetishes in this fandom and media is getting out of hand," or "hey maybe we, the public, don't need to know what strangers beat off to," you're lumped in with the puritans.
None of this "gatekeeps" the puritans, it just makes them look/feel right. Obviously sex MUST be an issue within the anime space, look at these people! Every other social media post is either about their gooning, or railing against censorship, and the censorship they always rail on about is related to gooning! You don't gatekeep people by manifesting every stereotype in their mind that validates their worldview.
Because the puritans are emboldened by all this, they become louder, more motivated, and have the materials to make a case to the less involved that sex in anime, and especially the fandom, is an issue. When normal people push back against the puritans, they then get lumped in with the porn addicts, who inevitably WILL show up, shouting louder than the normal people.
Like the loli debate; yes, they are not real and no one is getting hurt. It is not CP. But "CunnyConqueror" making "old enough to count, old enough to mount" posts is the absolute worst person to join in that conversation. He's the perfect person for the anti-loli people to point to and say "see? We're right."
The well is poisoned to the point where the water is a deep purple and audibly bubbling. The smoke coming out of that water is skull-shaped.
The anime fandom didn't just fail to gatekeep, it failed to clean house, just like the furries did. Now, any and all discourse is dominated by retards.
And it will never, ever end.
Puritan culture in Anime and other fandoms is extremely weird to me. It's like a denial of a basic part of human nature. After all.... humans are sexual creatures who are attracted to many different things. It feels a bit wrong to supress that.
Okay so you might be someone who's uncomfortable with depictions of sex and sexuality in the media you enjoy but that's really a YOU issue at the end of the day. Don't stop other people enjoying it because you either have a hang-up about it or it's just not your thing.
You're allowed to scroll and move on.
This isn't prompted by any particular posts recently or anything. Was just thinking how it's a gift to be comfortable with knowing what you like and not really caring what other people think 😅
It's particularly sad when you see someone outraged about sexual content and it's NOT some really dark morally dubious hentai ..... it's actually something that's sweet and wholesome that also manages to have a lot of sexy scenes like My Dress Up Darling.
Also don't fall into the trap of the people who pretend to be outraged for the clicks... like certain low effort no knowledge Youtubers.
Never be ashamed about what you're passionate about.....just like Marin Kitagawa.

When the sex of the antecedent is unknown or undetermined, the pronoun used is 'he'
This pronoun serves both as the masculine and as the neutral pronoun.

The concept of a jury is so retarded. You have a judge with potentially decades of training & experience in the application of the law, but let's defer to this miniature democracy we've assembled from a random selection of imbeciles and half-wits.

I brought my son into the teen section of our library because he's outgrown the kids section. Nothing but cotton candy-colored covers of girls trauma bonding. He said to me, "I like books where things actually happen."
I HATE my local library.

I have remained silent on all the controversy involving Christopher Nolan's Odyssey & for good reason.
Hollywood does not respect Western culture & it's so deeply entrenched it will never change.
Anime does a better job at European cultural osmosis than Hollywood ever will.

This was something I noticed during college. There was no difference in language/concepts between freshman woke studies majors and their supposedly expert professors.
In more rigorous fields, the deeper you go the more nuanced and specific the concepts/language becomes.

Younger Gen Xer and older Millennial men saw He-Man and thought he looked cool. He was basically a Frank Frazetta figure as a cartoon. They weren't jealous of He-Man's looks either. They never said, "OMG he's so unrealistic! No man could have a body like that!" Because internally most men understand the concept of aspirational aesthetics at an early age. Totally cool and most men will never achieve it but still totally cool.
Almost the exact opposite idea has been formulated in the minds of a significant cohort of women since around the mid 1990s or slightly later. We're no longer allowed to have aspirational aesthetics for women portrayed on the screen because of, "Internalized oppression, the patriarchy, or misogyny." Whatever the term might be. Nobody thought that all women could or should look like SheRa or a similar feminine figure. It was simply that we used to have a concept of an idealized vision of the masculine and feminine. Something that all prior cultures and societies had in the past.

It is kind of shocking how much the LessWrong scene constantly and articulately describes their own failure modes without ever fixing them.
“Stuck priors” and they can’t update away from the model of AI that made doom predictions make sense.
“Second-order consequences” and their moral analysis stops at “who was directly and non-consensually harmed”
Yud’s beautiful essay on how pursuit of truth is greater than, prior to, and beyond any one methodology while they’ve become method-worshippers.
Truly, do as the rationalists say and not as they do.

For the last few decades students have been taught that work has no value unless it creates “change,” i.e. leftist social change. Thinking that a librarian’s highest calling is to change the world is self-aggrandizement—and a shameful dereliction of their actual duties.
No. The point of libraries is to collect and preserve books and make them accessible to the public. They should be serene, silent, and you should be able to find Great Expectations on a shelf. Too many librarians are loud, entitled libs who are more concerned with politics than anything to do with cultural preservation. This is why libraries which used to be sanctuaries for mothers and their children, for a studious high school student, have instead become the domain of homeless and drug addicts and if you want Dickens you have to wait two weeks to have it shipped from three states away.

A brave fellow on the library board in my city wanted to get kink books out of the children's section. As a result, he was branded by the local leftists, establishmentarians, and normies as a Nazi.
This is a perfect example of what the "Case for Libraries" means: our opponents view libraries, just like all institutions, as bases of power. Normal people are alienated in favor of foot soldiers with blue hair and spiritual disorders.

Silence is NOT consent
But what happens when someone consents, then changes their mind?
Silence is STILL NOT CONSENT
That’s why I spent the last three years designing, engineering, prototyping, testing, and contacting dozens of suppliers in China to bring you:
The Consentinal™️
The world’s first continuous consent confirmation device
Simply press and hold the CONSENT button to activate a repeating tone, letting your partner know that consent is actively being given
The moment you let go, the tone stops
No more ambiguity
"But what if me or my partners are deaf, mute, or they don't have use of their arms?"
The Consentinel™️ has light-flashing and vibrating functionality. It also has a soft rubber button so that the device can easily and comfortably be used in one's mouth
Not only that, it can be wireless connected to other Consentinels™️ so that two or more partners can unanimously indicate consent. Letting go of any one button stops the consent indicator on all connected Consentinels™️!
Consentinel™️, because consent should never be assumed

Am I missing any?
• Postmodern "deconstruction" of a genre that thinks it's more clever than it really is.
• Everything is ironic because they're afraid attempts at sincerity will be seen as cheesy.
• Bathos (when something serious happens but the drama is immediately undercut by a joke).
• Fucked up moral lessons such as portraying selfishness as good.
• Aversion to heteronormative romance.
• Unlikable "strong female character" who talks down to everyone.
• Fetishism masquerading as progressivism.
• Villain is a thinly veiled stand-in for the writer's dad.
• If it's a sequel, prequel, adaptation, or remake, then it's written less like a story set in that universe, and more like a metacommentary about the franchise where creative decisions are based not on what's natural or logical, but on audience expectations or the subversion thereof.
• Protagonist was always perfect the way they are and they just had to learn to unleash themselves instead of improving or overcoming weaknesses.
• "This is a good character because they're really powerful."
• Conflating high stakes with high drama.
• Soapboxing.
• "It's sci-fi/fantasy, so it doesn't have to be consistent with its own internal logic or established rules!" ("space wizards" argument.)
• "Who cares whether or not it makes sense! What matters is how it makes you feel!" Because these things are mutually exclusive somehow.
• Female villain is only evil because of something a man did to her.
• "The man-eating, soul-stealing, vampire rapist spider people are just misunderstood. Humans are the real monsters."
• "Capitalism bad. Now here's a thing we included just so we could sell toys of it."
• Pop cultural references.
• "LOL drugs."
• "Isn't it funny that we're drawing attention to this trope we're doing? We're so much smarter than those other shows and movies that do the same thing because at least we're self-aware!"
• Ugly on purpose for no real purpose.
• Snarky and irreverent protagonist who quips and has a witty retort for anything said to them.
• Sexualizing women bad, sexualizing men good.
• Safe-edginess that's just casual bigotry toward acceptable targets such as straight men, French people, American southerners, etc.
• Old IP "reimagined" for the "modern audience".
• Protagonist is a shameless self-insert.
• "Humor" is "person I don't like dies."
• "Muh realistic anxiety attack!"
• Someone told them "write what you know" and what they know is coffee shops and porn.
• Cute, child-like thing is evil.
• "Traditionally heroic virtues are bad, actually."
• "I may be a cannibal who burns down orphanages, but at least I'm not a racist!"
• "Morality is subjective! Unless you disagree with my politics, in which case you're objectively evil!"
• Thinks they can make a scene "emotional" by simply showing a character crying when they haven't done anything to earn that emotional moment.
• Dialogue has a lot of "ums" and "yeeeahs".
• Memes in the place of jokes.
• "Creative" insults that are just swear words combined with other words, like "fuckstick", "shitballs", or "bitchmuffin".
• Adult characters talk like teenagers.
• Characters use internet slang in real life.
• All male characters are stupid, evil, or both.
• Baby talk combined with excessive profanity.
• Male protagonist gets pushed aside for a female character.
• All characters who oppose the protagonist (and therefore the writer's ideals since the protagonist is the writer) are strawmen because the writer cannot model other people's minds.
• "Why tell a timeless story that will resonate with future generations when I can make it about my pet political gripe of the week?"
• "How can I show that this character is unique and rebellious? I know! I'll give her blue hair and a side-shave!"
• Sexual preferences/gender identity is a character's entire personality.
• Stupid gotcha argument presented like it's profound wisdom and always goes unchallenged.
• "It's a made-up story, so we can do whatever we want with our adaptation! Who cares about the author's intent or the reasons they wrote it how they did?"
• Performative support for whatever happens to be the current political issue of the moment that no one will care about in five years.
The problem with the push against “misinformation“ and the attempts to ridicule people who “do their own research“ is that every reasonably smart person can see that an honest, curious layman can in many cases get to a much closer version of the truth than the so-called experts in sociology or archaeology or psychology, and so on, especially regarding anything at all controversial. On race, on gender differences, on IQ, on the movement of ancient peoples — it’s very easy to arrive at something much closer to the truth than the official narrative.
