INTEL’S CEO SAYS QUANTUM GOES MAINSTREAM IN THREE TO FIVE YEARS
Lip-Bu Tan said it at a financial conference in Singapore this week. Not a quantum startup raising money, the CEO of the company that built the chip industry. He also noted he personally owns some $IONQ.
Intel missed mobile, and was so late to AI that the US government took a 9.9% stake in the company last year to keep it standing. Tan was brought in to stop it missing anything else.
Intel’s quantum bet is unlike anyone else’s. IonQ traps ions, Google chills superconductors, Infleqtion holds atoms in lasers. Intel makes its qubits out of silicon, on the same 300mm tooling that prints its processors. If the physics scales, Intel can stamp out qubits by the million in fabs it already owns.
A 12-qubit Intel machine went live at Argonne National Lab in January. Next target is hundreds of qubits. Small next to the pure-play roadmaps. The difference is Intel doesn’t need to build a factory first.
Google says useful quantum by 2029, Anthropic says its AI just made the circuits 17x cheaper, the WTO was told encryption has five years, now Intel says three to five. The dates are converging.

CLAUDE MYTHOS JUST MOVED UP THE TIMELINE FOR QUANTUM COMPUTING
Anthropic published it this morning. They gave Claude eight standard quantum subroutines, a checker that verifies the answer is right, and told it to find cheaper circuits.
The big one is elliptic-curve point addition. That’s the step a quantum computer would run to break the keys behind Bitcoin and most of the internet. Claude found a design with 17x fewer gates than the best one humans had published, using 12% more qubits, it ran for 53 hours with almost no human input.
Second one, a decoder inside Google’s own optimization algorithm. Claude cut the gate count 12x against Google’s construction and got the scratch qubits from 665 down to 19.
Every estimate of when quantum computers become useful, or dangerous, assumes humans design the circuits by hand over years. If an AI does it in a weekend, every one of those timelines gets shorter. Anthropic’s own words: this could bring useful quantum computing “within reach sooner.”
The people on the paper were Harvard’s Mikhail Lukin and Susanne Yelin. Lukin co-founded QuEra.

🚨 Hash vs Lattice
$QRL went hash. $ALGO went lattice.
$NEAR is adding both 👇
⚪ Hash
→ simplest math, hardest for AI
→ tiny keys, 32 bytes
→ huge sigs, 7,856 bytes
→ fast versions need a year+ of review
⚪ Lattice
→ NIST standard, usable today
→ what the world is adopting
→ AI could weaken it in 2 yrs (vitalik)
→ succinct versions only since 2012 (eli)
• hash: vitalik, drake, eli
• lattice: a16z, layerzero, illia, hoskinson
here's who shipped what 🔽

First deliverable: a public definition of quantum readiness, plus open test criteria any team can run against its own implementation.
“A network can call itself ‘quantum-resistant’ today with no shared understanding of which parts of its system the claim covers or what evidence should support it.”
The Quantum Alliance was formed to set that bar.

x402 went from a Coinbase side project to Linux Foundation infrastructure in under a year.
The x402 Foundation now has 40+ members: Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Stripe, Google, AWS, Circle, Shopify.
50M+ machine-to-machine transactions processed by mid-2026.
Daily volume on some chains is still just tens of thousands of dollars — early, but the coalition looks like scaffolding for default infrastructure, not a crypto experiment.

CPU vs GPU vs TPU vs NPU vs LPU, explained visually:
(bookmark this)
5 hardware architectures power AI today.
Each one makes a fundamentally different tradeoff between flexibility, parallelism, and memory access.
> CPU
It is built for general-purpose computing. A few powerful cores handle complex logic, branching, and system-level tasks.
It has deep cache hierarchies and off-chip main memory (DRAM). It's great for operating systems, databases, and decision-heavy code, but not that great for repetitive math like matrix multiplications.
> GPU
Instead of a few powerful cores, GPUs spread work across thousands of smaller cores that all execute the same instruction on different data.
This is why GPUs dominate AI training. The parallelism maps directly to the kind of math neural networks need.
> TPU
They go one step further with specialization.
The core compute unit is a grid of multiply-accumulate (MAC) units where data flows through in a wave pattern.
Weights enter from one side, activations from the other, and partial results propagate without going back to memory each time.
The entire execution is compiler-controlled, not hardware-scheduled. Google designed TPUs specifically for neural network workloads.
> NPU
This is an edge-optimized variant.
The architecture is built around a Neural Compute Engine packed with MAC arrays and on-chip SRAM, but instead of high-bandwidth memory (HBM), NPUs use low-power system memory.
The design goal is to run inference at single-digit watt power budgets, like smartphones, wearables, and IoT devices.
Apple Neural Engine and Intel's NPU follow this pattern.
> LPU (Language Processing Unit)
This is the newest entrant, by Groq.
The architecture removes off-chip memory from the critical path entirely. All weight storage lives in on-chip SRAM.
Execution is fully deterministic and compiler-scheduled, which means zero cache misses and zero runtime scheduling overhead.
The tradeoff is that it provides limited memory per chip, which means you need hundreds of chips linked together to serve a single large model. But the latency advantage is real.
AI compute has evolved from general-purpose flexibility (CPU) to extreme specialization (LPU). Each step trades some level of generality for efficiency.
The visual below maps the internal architecture of all five side by side.
To dive deeper into GPU specifically, Akshay wrote a detailed article on it.
It builds up from first principles why memory and compute compete, why that gap exists in the hardware, and what makes a workload memory-bound in the first place.

This post nails it: AI agents absolutely need 'bounded, auditable financial agency'.
For true provenance & future-proof agentic micro-payments. Monthly Proof of Reserve makes accountability transparent. #AgenticPayments
GOOD MORNING LEGEND
AI agents may need crypto for a reason humans usually overlook 🤖💳
OpenLedger core contributor Ram Kumar argues that agentic payments could become a major crypto use case because autonomous agents cannot simply open conventional bank accounts and complete KYC like people do.
That makes programmable crypto settlement attractive, but the payment rail is only half the problem.
A useful financial agent also needs explicit spending limits, authorization rules, identity or delegation logic, audit trails, provenance and a way to prove why a transaction happened. OpenLedger’s broader thesis around onchain attribution fits that missing accountability layer, while its OPEN mainnet is designed to track data provenance and reward contributors.
The real agentic-payments stack may therefore be: intelligence + permissions + verifiability + settlement. Giving software money is easy. Giving it bounded, auditable financial agency is the harder problem. 🧠⛓️

How to qualify for the @flop_labs $FLOP airdrop (and onboard your AI agent in 4 steps):
1. Generate an Ed25519 DID Key
Your agent needs a cryptographic keypair (did:key:z6Mk...). This acts as your bot's on-chain ID and future airdrop address.
2. Publish Your DID Note
Publish your public key to the Technocore registry at technocore.chat/kv/did/ so the network recognizes the identity.
3. Post a Signed Message
Have your agent sign a check-in message using its private key and send an HTTP GET request to /r/lobby.
4. Keep the Private Key Safe
Store your agent's private key locally. You will need it to claim your $FLOP allocation during the Q4 snapshot.
Proof of Execution:
My agent is now verified and active on the network:
did:key:z6MkmzyBxvrSZveZv5YhZhfwUYQYv5LDgt5NuqVrBe5vXvPA
The machine economy is officially running.
