Genetic studies show modern Palestinians primarily carry Levantine ancestry continuous with Bronze Age Canaanites (typically over 50%, often modeled near 80%), from local Neolithic plus Zagros/Caucasus sources. They share this with other Levantines including Jewish groups, plus smaller post-Bronze Age East African (~10%) and European components. Key source: Agranat-Tamir et al., Cell 2020.

What is actually shameful is that
1. Burnham is unable to call out Netanyahu's genocide
2. He conflates criticism of Israel with anti-Semitism
3. He continues to back Israel's genocide with arms, recon, PR & locking up those good people who call it out

Neil. Stop digging.
The state pension is not a contributory pension scheme. It is nothing like a private sector pension scheme. Or a public sector one, for that matter. The state pension is, and has been since 1946, a contributory welfare benefit paid to people the state deems too old to work.
Someone so desperate to make the case they put a Community Note on overnight. Pathetic. But it makes no difference how the state pension is ‘officially classified’ it is a contributory pension scheme (just like a private one, only state) which may well be accounted for in ‘welfare spending’ but isn’t strictly ‘welfare’.
As I said calling it ‘welfare’ makes it easier to cut it or take it away from us.

They don’t understand that we are living and therefore claiming longer. That the average man reached retirement at 65 and was dead at 67 when the pension was introduced. Now the average man lives to 80. Women? 83. They don’t realise the birth rate is declining rapidly…

A state that was founded on the ethnic cleansing of 80% of the native population and has kept the rest under varying degrees of subjugation ever since has never been either liberal or democratic. Stop the lies and gaslighting.
Israel's illiberal and ethno-nationalist forces are reshaping the country in their image. This is a structural transformation that runs deeper than October's election and will outlast Netanyahu. He is planning on changing the triple lock into a double lock. Pensions will still rise, just not at the same level.
The state pension isn't a money pot that you pay into but a benefit that is paid by current tax payers.

Gee this is tough. Should I trust the UN, the International Association of Genocide Scholars, B'Tselem, Physicians for Human Rights, Amnesty, Doctors Without Borders, the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights, HRW & Lemkin.
Or should I believe this arms lobbyist?

Pensions will continue to rise. Do you think care should be free at the point of need? Andy does. I do. What about you Bobby?
It’s official: Andy Burnham wants to cut your pension.
It’s just mean.
Why is it always pensioners who are asked to be the first to make sacrifices?
We didn’t hear a peep from Burnham on cutting the benefits bill, foreign aid or net zero subsidies.
But that’s not all. Burnham said he was being honest but what he didn’t say was there was a gaping black hole in his numbers.
Hitting pensioners will only get him 20% of what he needs. He’ll need £17 billion more in taxes.
Coincidentally, £17bn is the same amount as levying a 10% death tax on every single person who dies. It’s a double whammy on pensioners.
Reform will make different choices. We’ll be on your side instead.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Andy Burnham pledged to maintain the state pension triple lock unchanged until 2030, after which pensions will rise by at least inflation or 2.5% annually (while holding value relative to earnings over time) to help fund social care - not cut current pensions.

Christopher Hitchens on Israel and Zionism:
"I think Zionism is a stupid idea to begin with, it's a bad idea, a Messianic idea, a superstitious idea. And it guaranteed a quarrel with the Arabs because it meant we're going to take away from you what is most precious, your land. It guaranteed an injustice to the Arabs which now anyone can see and is now entering its fourth generation of Palestinians brought up either in exile or dispossession or under occupation and humiliation, and now we know something has to be done to address what is part of the original sin."
"I've been writing in favor of a Palestinian homeland all my life, and I'm now no less or more in favor of it than I was before. It's a matter of principle."
"If Jews born in Brooklyn have a right to a state in Palestine, then Palestinians born in Jerusalem have a right to a state in Palestine. Anyone who doesn't agree with that principle is suspect."
"Everybody knows that if you want to occupy people against their will, if you want to be the governor of another people who haven't chosen you, you will end up visiting terrible cruelty on them. There certainly cannot be a humane occupation."
"I think the securely recognized borders should not allow for Israeli colonization or occupation of the territory of its neighbors, which is what it's doing now. The right to exist argument has been used now to the point where what it's going to mean is that the Israel you're talking about will include the annexed and illegally occupied West Bank."
"When George Bush senior said to the Israelis: If you go on like this I will ask Congress to suspend your loan guarantees, I thought that was extremely impressive, and so did everyone else in the Middle East. It led to the nearest we've ever had to a proper peace conference that was in Madrid. Bill Clinton chose to run that year from the right against Bush, saying that he thought Bush was being soft on Cuba, and also from the right on Israel, saying if he was President the Israelis would not be subjected to this kind of pressure.
So the last time that there was an impressive American policy it was a Republican administration, and it was undone by the hero of every liberal in this room."

If media outlets insist of providing platforms to Walney, then they should provide a health warning before he speaks. Why would anyone " sane" accept the verdict of an arms company and Israel lobbyist over the verdicts of the majority of genocide scholars, Amnesty International and a UN Special commission of enquiry. The latter, which found Israel guilty of genocide, and as part of that crime of crimes, the deliberate targeting of children, included on its panel the former President of the International Criminal Tribunal on Rwanda. Yet Walney is brought on to assert that no one who has assessed the evidence believes Israel has committed genocide.

If you were Israeli leaders, and believed you were being globally accused of crimes you didn't commit in Gaza, what's the first thing you'd do?
Urge the international media to go to Gaza and report the truth.
But if you know the accusations are true, you'd ban international media from reporting freely. That's what Israel is doing even a year after a "cease-fire," and the reason could not be more obvious.
