Writing for @educationgadfly, @Dale_Chu asks: What happened to TFA?
“The more TFA asked people to agree on issues beyond student achievement, the harder it became to sustain the big tent that had once made it so powerful.”

That’s right! The state tests create a perverse incentive to have our kids in front of screens even more.
That is why we are calling for a return to hand-written state tests.
Banning YouTube gets headlines, but NYC Council members are pointing to a deeper frustration: computer-based state tests forcing daily screen reliance in early grades.

Last week, I had a chance to visit the @Sept11Memorial on a quiet, rain-soaked evening. It’s hard to believe 25 years have passed. Harder still to fathom that an entire generation has grown up since that day, learning about it as history rather than as a memory.

This is a great set of essays on a topic that doesn't have an obvious right answer. Kudos to @Dale_Chu and Fordham for hosting all three.
Here's hoping these conversations gain traction in my state!
Apparently I struck a nerve. 😊
I’m grateful to @avveen, @jennvranek, and Khaled Ismail for taking the time to engage with my essay on through-year assessment. Each is a thoughtful contributor to this issue, and I encourage anyone interested in the debate to read their responses alongside the original piece.
