Data from 600k cars shows that real world fuel consumption for gas powered vehicles is 20% higher than official values. For PHEV's "real-world CO2 emissions were on average 3.5 times higher" (!!) europa.eu/!Ct6fdq

We are not on track. Fossil fuels are not (planned to be) phased out/down soon.
Great analysis by @UNEP and others in their Production Gap Report.

How far does the #InflationReductionAct go toward achieving the US's Paris Agreement goals? 🌎🏛️
New RFF research finds that the #IRA—when paired with a cap on emissions—could lead to an 80% reduction in energy-sector #emissions by 2030.

Congrats to RMI and Energy Innovation for an important new tool to explore state policy options.
🚨Launch of Energy Policy Simulator for 48 contiguous US states!🚨
Today we (@EnergyInnovLLC), in partnership with @RockyMtnInst, launched state versions of the Energy Policy Simulator (EPS) for the 48 contiguous U.S. states.

The Inflation Reduction Act has been US Law for but one day and I've already:
1. Heard from one state legislative leader planning to radically accelerate the state's timeline to 100% carbon-free electricity given how much more affordable those goals now are, and...
Especially interesting that the IRA narrows the range of changes in electricity prices resulting from future natural gas price swings, insulating business and households from uncertainty. Even under the highest natural gas price scenario, electricity prices fall below baseline.
Replying to @rff
"Under an array of future #NatGas prices trends, reductions in #electricity rates should happen soon and be long lasting," says @Nick_HRoy.
Those cost reductions accrue through direct reductions in electricity bills for households and indirect reductions in costs throughout the economy.
NEW ⚡️ RFF researchers model the impact of the #InflationReductionAct on consumer electricity prices, finding that it reduces the average American household's electricity costs by $170–$220 annually. rff.org/publications/issue-b…

The decline in electricity prices that result will help drive electrification of transportation and buildings, yielding additional environmental and consumer benefits over the decade.

Lead author @Nick_HRoy: "The tax credits can lower the #electricity rates everyone in the economy faces and shield us from potential swings in #NatGas prices like we've been seeing and feeling this year."

A major shout-out to @californiapuc's Energy Division for the publication of a thought-provoking proposal for a new retail market / rate design structure.
Done right, it could create the world's first, genuinely two-sided electricity market where demand actively participates.

New: Pennsylvania's Commonwealth Court grants Republican lawmakers' request to halt implementation of a regulation allowing the state to enter the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. State is prevented from "implementing and enforcing the Rulemaking until further order of Court."
