My late mother was a professional opera singer, whose favorite aria was Nessun Dorma. Anyway, we watched the 1998 Grammy Awards together because her favorite opera singer, Luciana Pavorotti was scheduled to sing, but at the last minute, he had to cancel due to a sore throat, and with a half hour notice, Aretha Franklin agreed to step in and sing, even though it wasn't her key, and she had no time to rehearse. This brought the audience to tears. Watch this amazing performance by the Queen of Soul.

Jessica Lange says she’s ready to retire from acting due to the challenges of filmmaking in 2026 and talks about the legacy of her career: “I actually feel like I’m coming to an end. And maybe it’s not a bad way to end, the last film being Long Day’s Journey Into Night and playing Mary Tyrone. There are a couple projects that have been in the works forever, that may or may not happen. I don’t know. It doesn’t seem easy to get things made anymore. At least not the films that interest me... [I hope I’m remembered] for some good parts, for doing some good films, and being an honest actor. I’ve been incredibly lucky. I’ve been really, really lucky because I love acting and I’ve had decades of being able to do it, which has been a joy for me. It’s been difficult at times, balancing family and career and locations and dragging my kids here and there, but it all was a great adventure. And I’m so grateful that that came my way.”

At 77, Houston grandmother Sistafabu Modupe still has to work because her Social Security check isn’t enough to cover her bills. What happens when a lifetime of work still doesn’t guarantee a comfortable retirement?

When I said that we don’t want our kids around their kids because parents aren’t raising their children, I was told that how people choose to raise their children has nothing to do with me. But we can clearly see that it does. Raising monsters and then unleashing them onto society.

Before The Munsters became a classic television staple, two unaired pilot presentation episodes were produced in 1964 to pitch the sitcom to CBS. The most famous of these is a 14-minute color pitch presentation titled "My Fair Munster", which features striking character, tonal, and aesthetic differences from the series that eventually hit the airwaves. Instead of Lily Munster, Herman’s wife was originally named Phoebe and portrayed by Joan Marshall. Network executives felt Marshall’s look and performance resembled Morticia Addams from their rival show, The Addams Family, too closely. She was recast with Yvonne De Carlo for a more glamorous, motherly figure. Eddie Munster was originally played by 12-year-old Nate "Happy" Derman. His portrayal was significantly more aggressive, snarl-heavy, and bratty compared to the sweet, relatable character later played by Butch Patrick. The initial pilot was filmed entirely in color to make it easier to pitch to networks as the industry shifted formats. However, CBS ultimately chose to shoot the actual series in black-and-white, saving an estimated $10,000 per episode in production costs. The overall atmosphere of the pilot was considerably darker, featuring different theme music, alternate makeup styles, and a parody of The Donna Reed Show for its opening credits.

Tannis anyone? Remembering the great Ruth Gordon on her 130th Anniversary. Unforgettable in her Academy Award winning performance as Minnie Castevet in Roman Polanski’s masterpiece Rosemary’s baby. This film is in my Top 5 for Halloween. #ruthgordon #rosemarysbaby #TCMParty
