My old Pistol License. Even though I am a trained shooter and a gun lover, owning a gun & able to fire in a life & death situation as a civilian requires discipline, training & a calm mind. Nowadays I don’t carry a pistol my life is in God’s hand, a piece of metal can’t protect me if the time comes it comes, I am always ready. Displaying a weapon & celebratory firing is very different than a real shootout. Guns can’t save you when time comes only God can.
Remembering Reverend TILAK or Narayan Vaman Tilak (Born 6 December 1861 – Died 9 May 1919), prolific Marathi Poet, on his Death Anniversary today. Belonging to the Konkan region of then Bombay Presidency in British India, he was a famous convert to Christianity from Chitpavan Brahmin Community. Tilak was born into a high-caste Chitpavan Brahman Hindu family south of Bombay in 1861. As a young man he was already something of a literary celebrity.
In his early thirties, in search of a universal religion, he began to read the Bible. He became an “intellectual convert” and was baptized in February 1895. He insisted that the ceremony be performed by an Indian pastor rather than a European or American.
Eventually his wife also became a Christian, though not without a bitter family struggle. Tilak wrote constantly, chiefly poems and hymns. In the 1950s the Marathi hymnal contained 254 of his hymns, out of a total of almost 700.
In his forties he underwent a conversion of the heart rather than the mind, and for the last years of his life he was an exemplary Christian bhakta, giving up money and possessions, though not renouncing home and family. This alarmed some missionaries, fearful of disorder, especially since in 1917 Tilak had published an open letter stating that he no longer wished to be associated with any human religious institution. He had long intended to write a life of Christ in Marthi verse, to be called Christavan, but on his death in 1919 it remained incomplete. His cousin was Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak.

Politics is a religion and those who serve with honesty and dedication are Saints, even though nowadays Saints have become almost extinct in Politics, there are many unsung heros of yesteryear who continues to inspire and are till now examples of Honesty and dedication to the Nation. I had the opportunity know one such leader, late Sarat Chandra Sinha the former CM of Assam, an absolutely non corrupt Politician, as he was my neighbor during my school days in the 90's, many times I carried his vegetable bag he carried from the bus stand to his home while he came from the market. An old man no Vip security, no car, just a dhoti and humility, he used to travel by city bus and died a pauper. Another Leader was Late Bhola Paswan Sastri the former CM of Bihar and I came to know about him when I was serving in Parliament of India. A particular gentleman by the name Bhagwan Ji a Staff of the Parliament Canteen, who used to serve me lunch and tea often narrated me stories of old and veteran Parliamentarians and he came up with the story of Bhola Paswan Shastri the first Dalit CM of Bihar and close to Late PM Smt Indira Gandhi. He was a Rajya Sabha MP and once he was shivering with fever during one Parliament Session and Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi somehow noticed him and immediately gave her shawl to him and sent him to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for treatment. Late Bhola Paswan Shastri too died a Pauper and a decade back I came across an article of his widowed daughter in law in her 50's working as a labor under NREGA scheme. Times have changed,so has the Society and Politicians, but somewhere down the lane there are Good and Honest Politicians who will bring change to the entire Political System of India where merit not dynasty, talent not religion or caste, and dedication not money, will get space, in the end as the Ancient Greek Philosopher Heraclitus said "the only constant in Life is change" and change is imminent. #saratsingha #bholapaswanshastri #honestpoliticians #democracy #freedom #republic – at Chandrapur, India
