This is getting silly - as someone working with big artists and agencies this is how the pro market in video games and general tv/movies works:
Key art for a big IP:
US agency - 100k usd (as they attach 20 ppl outside of thr artist that they in most cases don’t even have in house)
Dedicated 2d agency that worked for RIOT (splash art) - 50k usd
Top tier artist with big social following - 10-5k usd
Top tier artists but not huge on socials - 3-5k usd
Magic The Gathering quality lvl art - 2-4k usd
Comic book cover artist - 1-3k usd (unless you are Mignola lvl)
Indie Video game illustrator not from US - 1-2k
This is for commercial work with the copyright attached - the same lvl art can be way cheaper for a indie studio or a passion project in between bigger more corporate work.
On this whole "$4500 for one illustration" discussion:
I'm pro-valuing your own work and setting the price you think you deserve.
I have worked with some global top tier artists at the companies I've worked at over the years. These companies are loaded with money, so we could afford top tier quality.
Never has one of our contracted illustrators charged us even close to $4500 for a single piece. And this was before the AI boom. (I know, as I was keeping the accounts).
Moreover, their pricing accounted for several rounds of revision and, assuming a standard work day of 8 hours, would very often deliver the completed or near completed work in 4-5 working days (about 40 hours).
A lot of the artists also didn't charge their hourly rates during the onboarding process (when we needed them for longer periods), where they got to know how we worked, our standards, the vibe we were going for, etc, and during which some also did some test work for us.
What was their secret?
A lot of them (not all!) were from East Asia and Eastern Europe, where cost of life and salary expectations are lower
For the artist who's at the center of attention, maybe the rate they are asking matches their location and average salary. I don't know, and I haven't done any research on their life.
This is to say: I believe this artist has the right to set whatever price they want, more power to them and to whoever loves their work.
For everyone else, there's A LOT of equally talented individuals who offer cheaper services.

Alex Pretti's father: Our son was shot and killed by the government, federal immigration agents, on January 24th, 2026. We learned about his death from the media as we saw him being shot repeatedly in the back after helping a woman from his community. This was not a protest that Alex was at. His hands were in the air, and his face was on the ground when he was executed by ICE agents. We know exactly what our eyes saw. No one from the federal government called us on that day. But they did go on TV to tell lies about Alex. No one has called us since. No one has recanted those lies.

BREAKING: "Speculative data center debt is being repackaged and sold to pension and retirement funds, university endowments, and other institutional investors in a manner eerily reminiscent of the subprime bubble," per AFR
LinkedIn is such a wild place. Seeing some of the absolute dumbest industry takes on there being taken seriously just because someone said what they said with their whole chest.

YOU'RE NOT PAYING TAXES FOR THE PROPERTY, YOU'RE PAYING YOUR TOWN FOR THE SERVICES IT PROVIDES. THE ROADS, POLICE, SCHOOLS, FIRE DEPARTMENT, LIBRARY, SNOW PLOWS, EMERGENCY SERVICES AND SO MUCH MORE.
“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?”
Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

"A game that can be taken away the moment a company pulls the plug is not a purchase. It is a rental disguised as a sale."

Everyone's looking at this clip and talking about how good Ali would have been as Blade (which is true), but Bassam Tariq wrote and directed this movie and was originally attached to Blade and when you watch this movie you'll really see how much we were robbed.
Bunch of studies and sketches as I did when I was first trying to get the hang of drawing the characters for the Avatar movie

It is generally enjoyable to watch Abdul explain this, and specifically enjoyable to watch him explain this to one of the architects of an elite media consensus that is so out of touch with actual public consensus
Abdul El-Sayed explains to @chucktodd why there is bipartisan consensus in Washington against issues that have public consensus.
@AbdulElSayed: “Take health care, for example. Public consensus that the government ought to do a lot more to provide us health care. Bipartisan consensus that it shouldn't. What's the difference? Biggest single lobbyist by sector is pharma. Second biggest lobbyist by sector is insurance. Eighth biggest is hospitals and senior homes.”

Seems a little inevitable to me that there's going to be an enormous surge of interest in traditional/analog art, board games, figurines, etc. in the next few years.
