#SWACStats Coach @27TBuck talked about penalties on the SWAC media call. I decided to do a deep dive. Walk with me. Southern is big winner is fewer penalty yards per game. PV draws more flags than it commits (10.2 a game vs 8.2) still loses 10.4 yards a game. Costly penalties

Alabama A&M took over No. 1 in this week's #BlackCollegeFootballPoll. South Carolina State took over No. 1 in the #DataDrivenHBCUTop5 Computer Poll. Bethune-Cookman climbed into the top four of both after beating Jackson State. The players behind the week got their due, too. North Carolina Central took four of five #MEAC weekly awards, with Gino Addison named both Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week. Bethune-Cookman's Stephen Sparrow and Tyler Jefferson and Texas Southern's Athean Renfro Jr. and Miguel Arana III swept the #SWAC honors. If the Division II season ended Saturday, seven HBCUs would make the playoff field in Super Regions One and Two. The CIAA would send Virginia State, Virginia Union, and Bowie State, and the SIAC would send Kentucky State, Edward Waters, Benedict, and Central State. Our projections: datadrivenhbcu.com/2026/10/2…

Quick factual update: This didn't happen on Campus; this had nothing to do with the security & safety of the FAMU Campus. The actual FAMU tailgaters were safe & acting accordingly. In every city, a big event brings out the city, but "THE CITY" is not the HBCU they associate with.

It saddens me to hear Black children disparage HBCUs. A culture that equates whiteness with excellence has convinced too many of us that our own institutions are inherently less worthy. That belief says more about what we’ve been taught than what HBCUs have proven.

JSU Fans shouldn’t lose hope on the season. Week in, week out, the SWAC is incredibly tough and the strongest it’s been in years. Low-key, AAMU and BCU are putting together compelling at-large bid resumes.

No. 1 Jackson State visits No. 8 Bethune-Cookman, with first-place status in the SWAC East on the line, and a Wildcats win gives them the head-to-head over the Tigers. Meanwhile, four Homecomings are on the schedule: Florida A&M, Hampton, SC State, and Texas Southern, with Hampton playing on campus for the first time all season and Texas Southern taking its 99th Homecoming to Reliant Stadium.
