Excellent decision and a welcomed shift. The biggest obstacle to economic growth is energy. This will create jobs and increase government receipts. We need more policy making that ‘shifts the needle’. #jackdaw
🚨 BREAKING: The Government has officially approved the Jackdaw gas field for North Sea drilling It's the UK’s largest known untapped gas reserve and will start to supply gas to British homes and businesses from the end of this month

My Dad was admitted to hospital yesterday.Unfortunately he has been sat in a recliner chair overnight. Another elderly lady who can barely sit upright has also been placed in a chair. The staff are working hard and exhausted. We must find solutions #NHS

Excellent article by @ibrahim_Dogus describing the impact and importance of local government. “The frontline of politics is not always Westminster. It is the doorstep, the estate, the high street and the residents’ meeting”. Full article below 👇🏾
🏘️ “Local democracy is where politics becomes personal.” In my latest piece for @LabourHome_ , I reflect on why being a councillor is one of the most demanding—and most rewarding—roles in public life. Whether helping residents with housing, tackling antisocial behaviour, supporting local businesses or navigating public services, councillors are often the first people communities turn to when something goes wrong. Drawing on my experience representing Waterloo and South Bank, I also make the case for giving local government—and the councillors serving on the front line—the recognition, resources and support needed to deliver for our communities. Lord Kinnock backs social care reform. Investing in care creates jobs, fuels growth, and allows people to stay in the workforce without personal caregiving burdens. It's a win-win. #SocialCare #Economy #Jobs #LordKinnock

China is making huge investments in solar and nuclear power, betting on green energy for a sustainable economy. It's a strategically sound move, even with political challenges. #China #GreenEnergy #Sustainability

We’ve found staff across 9 London Borough councils have been under investigation for housing corruption. One staff member was fired for trying to allocate themselves a council property.
Some people who've been stuck for years on housing waiting lists are paying council workers in a frantic bid to speed up their long wait for a home. Housing campaigner @Kwajotweneboa speaks to @sophyridgesky and @wilfredfrost about the corruption.

One of my biggest takeaways from interviewing Lord Kinnock: Politics cannot just be about pointing out what is wrong. It has to be about having the ambition, ideas and determination to make things better. 🎙️ Full conversation coming soon. #UKpolitics #LordKinnock #Burnham

The UK gilt market’s high beta is on display again today as 10-year yields surge to nearly 5.40% amid this global sell-off—and this in the run-up to the government delivering its first, highly anticipated budget on October 28. For the reasons detailed in my April Financial Times column on "who lost the UK bond market" (link below), this structural vulnerability has been building for years and now has self-feeding dynamics: sluggish productivity colliding with expanding deficits and the refinancing of debt last incurred at lower borrowing costs, making both economic growth and fiscal sustainability even harder to achieve. ft.com/content/4b258818-4935… #economy #uk #markets #debt #bonds #yields

What happens in global energy markets will increasingly shape the outlook for UK households and the economy. I think the likelihood of interest rate rises this year is increasing. The signals aren’t going away. #oil #crudeoil #economy
