BREAKING: A major civil war has erupted inside the Albanese Government, with a leadership spill officially brewing within the Labor Party. In a stunning and unprecedented move, Treasurer Jim Chalmers has gone into survival mode, publicly pointing the finger directly at his boss, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, as the primary reason Labor’s popularity has completely plummeted. Make no mistake, the lines have been drawn, the factions are fracturing, and a leadership spill is coming. Here is exactly how the civil war is playing out: Jim Chalmers openly name checked Anthony Albanese and other senior ministers, declaring that everyone is responsible for their own “parts of the shop” Translation? He is refusing to take the sole fall for Labor’s catastrophic economic failures and tanking poll numbers. In what is being viewed as direct code for internal warfare, Chalmers’ comments firmly dump the blame for Labor's cascading crises onto his colleagues: He ripped into Finance Minister Katy Gallagher for the ballooning public service. Had a dig at Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke for national security and immigration failures. Blamed Foreign Minister Penny Wong for diplomatic blunders. And then stunningly, Anthony Albanese for the absolute disaster of the lot. With yet another interest rate hike tipped for Melbourne Cup Day, Chalmers is desperately trying to shield himself from the impending fallout of a faltering economy and soaring inflation. And typically, as the domestic front burns, Albanese is preparing to jet off to Antigua and Barbuda, leaving behind an increasingly toxic, agitated cabinet and a deputy chair relationship that is completely fractured. The defensive posture from Chalmers proves he knows the ship is sinking. The blame game has begun, trust is entirely gone, and a challenge for the lodge is now inevitable.

Is he serious? Nothing to see here? The premier presents his case, his promises, and his vision. Also: no new taxes!
Is the state of Victoria a mess? Ben Carroll rejects @3AWNeilMitchell 's suggestion it is, despite a rather comprehensive list. This is just a short clip from the full interview out this Friday on the Mitchell Unlimited YouTube channel

SIR ZELMAN COWEN: A LIFE OF EXCELLENCE, SERVICE AND JEWISH PRIDE Born in Melbourne in 1919, he became dux of Scotch College, graduated as the University of Melbourne’s top law student & won a Rhodes Scholarship He deferred Oxford to serve Australia in the Royal Australian Navy during the Second World War. He was stationed in Darwin when Japanese forces attacked in 1942 After the war, he took up his Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford, winning the prestigious Vinerian Scholarship for his achievement in civil law What followed was a remarkable career devoted to education, law & public service As Professor of Public Law and Dean of Law at the University of Melbourne, & later Vice-Chancellor of the universities of New England & Queensland, he helped shape Australian higher education He also brought important ideas to a wider audience. JACINTA’S MESSAGE FOR BEN: PETROL DRIVE-OFFS MUST BE PROSECUTED This week, Premier Ben Carroll drove off from a petrol station without paying. Victoria Police subsequently came knocking. Jacinta Allan previously declared that petrol drive-offs are illegal & “need to be prosecuted” Does that standard apply to the Premier too ?

Dr Helen Haines MP This is an incredibly sad and shocking story, and my thoughts are with her and her family. I wish her a speedy recovery. People in public life should be safe and not threatened or injured in the way that Helen has been.

Victorians should have the freedom to choose how they heat their homes, cook their meals and run their businesses. A Liberal and Nationals Government will scrap Labor's gas ban within our first 100 days, helping lower costs and restore energy choice

The TEAL MP from Kooyong, Monique Ryan would do well to realise that it’s NOT the job of Australians to make immigrants “feel comfortable” about our immigration debate. We need to have the debate Monique. And we WILL continue to do so no matter what you and the girls at the ABC think. It’s the fault of people like you that we are in this mess!!
