While I do not fault the sincerity and accuracy of this person's post, I would like to focus on how difficult it is to heal in our culture. We live in environments that are actively hostile to healing, and reward/protect the unhealed in multiple ways, economic and social.
not enough people talk about the burnout that comes from constantly dealing with unhealed adults. always being the bigger person. always managing their triggers while suppressing your own. always explaining basic respect and accountability to people stuck in survival mode. that kind of exhaustion is soul tiring. protect your peace before you lose yourself carrying what other people refuse to heal within themselves.

The fact that we domesticated wolves but never figured out how to negotiate with geese is one of humanity’s great unfinished projects.

One of the cruelest things about poverty is how much imagination it consumes. It's hard to dream expansively about the future when so much of your mental energy is devoted to surviving the next two weeks.

This is what the Reagan Revolution wrought: unprecedented wealth for them, poverty for you.
I'm in my 40s. I'm a lawyer. My wife is a lawyer. We both work full time. We cannot afford the house my parents purchased on a single electrician's income in their 30s. We cannot afford the house my immigrant grandparents purchased on a single MTA bus driver's salary in their 30s. They had SIX CHILDREN. For 30 years, politicians in Washington & their oligarch allies convinced regular people that this was just about avocado toast and fancy coffee. In reality, this is end-stage capitalism. Everyone is stuck in place. It's impossible to buy a home. It's too costly to move. We work too much to have passion projects. We don't have enough savings to start our own businesses. We can't afford to go without healthcare to do it. Thanks for writing this article @troy_closson. Would be very happy to discuss further. nytimes.com/2026/10/25/nyreg…

when i say i love cheesecake factory, this is what i mean
when Cheesecake Factory was outside he would sit politely and stare at people, waiting for them to notice him but was ignored now he follows me around the rescue and does the same thing which means I must stop and pet him every time so he knows he'll never be ignored again

The biggest reason for the decline in quality of university discourse even on its own terms is simply that phd students arent being given enough time in grad school to fuck around and go down some dead ends and find a project. They arent being given the space to take risk

Fines don't work against a $3.9 trillion dollar corporation unless you're suing them for $3.9 trillion dollars and then bankrupting their CEOs and corporate leadership. Fines will NEVER work against the billionaire class. Google does what it wants because it can.

The 3-Act Drama of an ADHD Hobby: Act I (The Spark): You discover a new topic at 11:00 PM. By 2:00 AM, you’ve joined two online communities, watched 14 hours of tutorials on 1.75x speed, and ordered $120 worth of entry-level equipment. Act II (The Mastery Sprint): You obsessively execute for six days straight. You become terrifyingly competent. It is your whole personality. Act III (The Ghosting): The equipment arrives in the mail. You look at the box. Your brain delivers zero dopamine. You seal the box and put it in the "closet of forgotten hyperfixations."

a lot of people who consider themselves brutally honest are remarkably selective about the situations in which they're willing to tell the truth. it's easy to be blunt with people who have less power than you.
