Big new leak of Russian combat deaths, based on death certificates: nearly half-a-million. Adds credence to other estimates.
According to various studies, the ratio of deaths to serious woundings among Russian combatants in this war ranges from 1 : 1.7 to 1 : 2.2.
Applied to this data, that implies between 1.2M and 1.4M men killed and seriously wounded. That's between 1.8% - 2.1% of all Russian men.

BBC presenters have been ordered to do a defence of Israel.
It happens whenever guests mention the genocide or extremism of its government.
Imagine they did this on behalf of Russia. Unthinkable!

It bears repeating that Operation Epic Fury was not about Iran’s nuclear program. That program was significantly set back in the June 2025 strikes. The remaining facilities are too deeply buried to be eliminated militarily. If you want evidence, just look at the target set of OEF—of the over 13k strikes, maybe 5 were against nuclear sites, most of which were already struck in 2025 (and it’s unclear whether it was Israel or the U.S. who hit them in 2026).
Don’t be gaslit into believing that the recent war was necessary to deny Iran the bomb.

When researchers analyzed how Pegasus spyware infected iPhones without the user tapping anything, they found something wild. The attackers sent an iMessage with a fake GIF that targeted Apple's image decompression engine. The decompression math was so flexible that the exploit chained arithmetic operations together to construct a literal, functioning software CPU using over 70,000 segment commands that defined logical bit operations (AND, OR, XOR, XNOR, etc.) entirely inside the image parser. This created a small computer architecture with registers, a full 64-bit adder, and a comparator, running raw code before the phone even buzzed with a notification

The ballistic sit pad is one of the more ingenious inventions of this war. Back in 2014 both Ukrainian and Russian soldiers attached rubber bands to wear their sit pads... Well on their asses. That way it never gets lost. Then someone came up with the idea to throw some armour in there. It's always a good idea to protect those big juicy inner thigh veins from shrapnel.
This skirt looks even better but I wonder how practical it is.

The BBC consistently interrupts every guest that criticises Israel with a defence on their behalf: “Israel would say [insert genocide justification here]”
They say they do this for “transparency” and “due impartiality”.
If they were honest about that, they would also add the other things Israel themselves have said.
Allow us to demonstrate:
1. “Israel would say [genocide justification] although Isaac Herzog, Israel’s President did say on 12 October 2023 ‘It is an entire nation out there that is responsible’”
2. “Israel would say [genocide justification]. Netanyahu did also say in a letter to his soldiers on November 2023 that Gaza is a ‘holy war of total annihilation’”
3. “Israel would say [genocide justification]. On 9 October 2023, Defence Minister Yoav Gallant also said ‘We are fighting against human animals.’”
4. “Israel Katz, the Energy Minister on 13 October 2023, did say that Gaza's civilians would ‘not receive a drop of water or a single battery until they leave the world.’”
5. “Bezalel Smotrich, Finance Minister in August 2024 said starving two million people “might be just and moral until they return the hostages.’”
The BBC has consistently hidden behind “transparency” and “due impartiality” to defend Israel at every opportunity.
But their cherry-picking of what they say after “Israel says”, is telling of just how opaque and partial they are.
“Israel says” is not inherently bad, if one actually says what Israel says.

No actually FCAS collapsing has literally nothing to do with Germany wanting France to lose (or Germany being excessively nationalistic in defense industrial terms).
The problem is that France was increasingly becoming the junior player with respect to the scale of its fiscal contribution to the program, which depends heavily on the # of aircraft that would be ordered. Germany's defense spending this year is approx 2x France's in dollar or euro terms. And projected to be >2.5x France's by 2030. And the gap is even larger for airpower programs since France, unlike Germany, has to spend a lot of money on nuclear weapons, SSBNs, SSNs and an aircraft carrier.
Despite increasingly being the junior partner in fiscal terms, France, through Dassault, was basically demanding the right to dominate the program, essentially turning Airbus and Germany into a glorified customer that would get some industrial share scraps.
This is just not a serious, realistic expectation coming from a fiscal junior partner. If France's economy was stronger and its defense budget was much larger then yes, sure, it would be somewhat reasonable. But it's not. So there's a huge gap between French geopolitical ambitions and actual French capacity. Its ego is, in essence, writing checks that the French defense and finance ministries cannot cash.
It therefore made sense that FCAS collapsed, with Germany and Spain now looking to either join GCAP (as *partners* or create a new next program with Sweden and maybe Canada, also as *partners*). Germany actually has a pretty long track record of partnering with European allies on major defense industrial projects. The country more notorious for being highly nationalistic, mercantilistic and going it alone is France.

Germany has a true crab mentality when it comes to France. They don't mind losing as long as we do as well.
