1980's optronics for air target identification by fighter pilots were fixed forward as well. That's not so much of a problem. You need to get close, that's what costs time especially if the cheap cruise missiles don't fly close to each other.

Was literally explaining the, "society falls when old men don't plant trees they will never sit under" to my neighbor (boomer) He said he didn't get it and why would he plant trees if won't be around to see them

A bit of a rant grown into a blog post: "We need a different way of war" defense-and-freedom.blogspot…

That's bollocks and its pursuit requires excessive expenditures. /done

The offence-defence spiral goes on. In the end, one needs to understand that you take blows in war and you better be able to tolerate those. The American Way of War has been for 40 years to pretend 'overwhelming force' and 'airspace domination' et cetera can give immunity. /5

Bigger guns get more expensive without getting effective out to 45k ft, which is a feasible cruise altitude for such drones in the very near future. /4

I suspect 76 mm heavy AAA may be an answer, though they would be at risk of getting hit by artillery or cheap drones far forward and might lack effective ceiling against high-flying cheap cruise missiles. /3

So there's the case for Shaheed saturation attacks being able to overwhelm an APKWS fighter force up to a short penetration distance. That won't apply for deep penetrations. Still, there's a case for different defence against cheap cruise missiles for coastal and front areas. /2

APKWS uses semi-active laser homing and has short range. The fighter needs to get close, then illuminate the target with the laser. An AIM-9X can lock on from much longer distance and is fire&forget. /1
"Aircrews found the airspace and timing were often too tight for APKWS employment in the Strait of Hormuz and Persian Gulf, so they have ended up relying on AIM-9s. But defensive counterair for base defense has featured APKWS." airandspaceforces.com/articl…

Big new leak of Russian combat deaths, based on death certificates: nearly half-a-million. Adds credence to other estimates. According to various studies, the ratio of deaths to serious woundings among Russian combatants in this war ranges from 1 : 1.7 to 1 : 2.2. Applied to this data, that implies between 1.2M and 1.4M men killed and seriously wounded. That's between 1.8% - 2.1% of all Russian men.
A group of hackers published classified data on Russian soldiers killed in the war, from Russia's statistics agency Rosstat. In late August, the total was 450,100 (around 100k per year). It is in line with other independent estimates. There is also a regional breakdown.

Well, .45ACP is not a very strong cartridge in terms of penetration. Weaker penetration than 9x19, MUCH weaker than 7.62x25. 20 layers aramid/kevlar was what flak vests of the 80s/90s used. Those were rated for most fragments of HE, but no pistol calibres.

BBC presenters have been ordered to do a defence of Israel. It happens whenever guests mention the genocide or extremism of its government. Imagine they did this on behalf of Russia. Unthinkable!
