Norm Finkelstein gets so many things wrong about the Greens including saying we should have focused on โ€œJewish supremacyโ€ instead of Zionism. Zionism isnโ€™t just about supremacy. Itโ€™s about colonialism, dispossession and imperialism. Thatโ€™s precisely why naming Zionism matters.

Number 2 on Abbasโ€™ list is a former Israeli police commander. The most vanilla, cold-dead centrist imaginable. Imagine a Black candidate in the US sharing a ticket with a white former FBI unit director form McLean, VA or something. That's your scary crypto-Khamasnik.
I like Mansour Abbas and appreciate his approach and understand his limitations, but while he has condemned October 7, he has never, not once explicitly called Hamas a terror organization and has refused to say Hamas should be destroyed/dismantled. For post-October 7 Israeli society, objecting to his inclusion in the government until he can articulate that position is a very understandable position. Especially when PM Netanyahu's whole pitch is he is "strong against terror" and the Zionist opposition's counter position is "we are equally if not stronger against terror." And in the clip Shadi is quote tweeting, he literally does not condemn Hamas -- he says he has "condemned what they did time and time again," i.e. October 7, and then there's a BUT. That is the problem, and it can't be dismissed as a semantic difference. Mansour Abbas himself isn't dismissing it as a semantic difference. I have zero insight into Qatari politics but it's funny he's lowkey attacking the opposition ('failures of certain Israeli politicians'). also where's my check you freakin sheikhs ๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ค I'm busting my ass for y'all
We categorically deny allegations that Qatar has interfered in Israeli elections or funded any activities intended to influence their outcome. We reject the accusations made by certain Israeli politicians and their contacts in the media, who have launched yet another disinformation campaign aiming to drag Qatar into Israeli political disputes following this weekโ€™s elections. They accuse Qatar of buying off Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli political left and now, in this latest campaign, the Arab vote. If these claims were to be believed, Qatar would apparently own all of Israel. These accusations are ridiculous and dangerous in equal measure. The repeated invocation of Qatar in Israeli electoral rhetoric reveals an excessive obsession with our country among certain Israeli political and media figures. Qatar should not be used as a scapegoat for the political failures of certain Israeli politicians. Rather than trying to shift attention onto Qatar, they would be better off focusing on their own voters, improving peopleโ€™s everyday lives, and undoing the damage theyโ€™ve created in the region. We reiterate that we have no involvement in Israelโ€™s political or electoral competition. These are internal Israeli matters in which we do not interfere, and we will not accept any attempt to draw Qatar into its domestic political disputes. Any government emerging from these elections must uphold international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, engage seriously and honestly on the Palestinian issue, and respect the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their right to self-determination and an independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This requires responsibility and accountability. None of this will distract us from our important role as a mediator, our diplomatic and humanitarian efforts, our support for the Palestinian people, or our commitment to a just and comprehensive peace and regional stability. We will continue working closely with our regional and international partners to resolve ongoing conflicts through diplomacy. We will not remain silent while Qatarโ€™s name is exploited to serve electoral agendas or narrow political interests.

Today marks the 70th anniversary of the Kafr Qasim Massacre by Israel. It was Monday, 29 October 1956. The Israeli government and military decided to impose a curfew on Arab villages near the border with Jordan. At 4:30 p.m., a border police sergeant informed the mayor of Kafr Qasim that the curfew would begin at 5 p.m. that evening. Hundreds of villagers who had left home that morning to go to work had no way of knowing the curfew had been moved up. The soldiers tasked with enforcing the curfew were ordered to โ€œshoot to kill any person seen outside their home after 17:00, making no distinction between men, women, children, or those returning from outside the village.โ€ When villagers began returning home after 5 p.m., border police stopped them on the western side of the village. Soldiers forced people out of trucks, cars, and off bicycles, then began shooting at close range. Shmuel Malinki, who commanded the Border Guard unit in Kafr Qasim, asked what to do about villagers who had been working in the fields and had not yet heard about the new curfew. The response from Shadmi, commander of the Israeli Defense Forcesโ€™ Central District, was: โ€œAllah yerahamu.โ€ (Arabic: ุงู„ู„ู‡ ูŠุฑุญู…ู‡ู…) (God have mercy on them.) In just one hour, 48 people were murdered. 23 of them children. News of the massacre was initially blocked by the Israeli military censor. However, communist Knesset members Tawfik Toubi and Meir Vilner managed to enter the village two weeks later to investigate the rumors, and after two months of lobbying by them and the press, the government lifted the media blackout imposed by Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion. Consequences? Shadmi, the colonel who gave the order to shoot men, women, and children, was found guilty only of exceeding his authority and fined 1 pruta (about US $0.03 in 2023). By 1960, all the perpetrators had either been released or pardoned. Two of those convicted were later promoted: Shmuel Malinki was put in charge of the Negev Nuclear Research Center. Gabriel Dahan, the Israeli Border Police First Lieutenant who executed the killings, was assigned to oversee โ€œArab Affairsโ€ in the city of Ramla. Dahan later changed his name to Dagan and worked as an Israel Bonds representative in Paris. One soldier, Shalom Ofer, later admitted: โ€œWe acted like Germans, automatically," but never expressed remorse or regret for his actions The Trial? Shadmi, the highest-ranking official prosecuted for the massacre, stated shortly before his death that he believed his trial had been staged to protect members of the Israeli political and military elite, including Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, from responsibility. The aim was to portray the perpetrators as rogue soldiers rather than individuals acting under higher orders.

I mean this as a philosophical thought, not a xenophobic one, but if you think any specific plot of land is an object of Godโ€™s passion, then I think youโ€™d move there and spend your short time on earth living there. Why live in a place like the US that God doesnโ€™t care about?

This footage is horrifying. And to think that this is how people have been living for more than a year since the โ€œceasefireโ€, without a single brick for reconstruction allowed in.
The latest aerial footage reveals the scale of Israelโ€™s genocide in Gazaโ€”devastation beyond words. We are entering the fourth year, and Israel still bars international journalists from entering the Strip. Be a voice for Gaza, for its victims, its innocent civilians, and those whose stories remain untold. Do not stay silent!
