As @Ianblackford_MP stands down after five years at the helm, his colleagues are united in praising his hard work, good humour and grit. It’s a tough gig, made tougher still by his long weekly commute. Sending Ian and Ann every good wish. thenational.scot/news/231629…

This is tragic. Iain was a great colleague at Sunday Herald, & for years was the best left voice writing on Scottish self-determination. But in recent years he seemed occasionally gripped by an anti-PC fever—in that spirit, his appalling tweet. I hope he’ll reflect, & re-emerge

You’re talking about anyone else bending the knee? You, who bent the knee for a red robe trimmed with ermine?
You sold any character you had, Jack and abandoned democracy in the process. Wow, satire is indeed dead.

This is not the queue, stretching miles, to see Queen Elizabeth's coffin lying in state.
This is the queue for a charity food bank in the capital city of the world's fifth richest country.

As some of us have been warning for months, Britain now at risk of a sterling crisis. No evidence at all that Truss and Kwarteng understand the gravity of the situation. Shades of Black Wednesday.

This bold action from the Scottish Govt will support thousands of households during this national crisis.
I'll continue to call on the UK Govt to grant me the power to freeze rents in our capital. Londoners face record rents at the worst possible time. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-s…

It’s not just a handful of goons. The nationalist movement has a bigot problem. Sturgeon may claim it’s ‘not in my name’ but it’s certainly in her cause.

Lady Agnew. My version of the fabulous John Singer Sargent painting, painted in watercolour and gouache. Sargent painted her in oils. This painting is headed for ‘Inspired’ at Fidra Fine Art in September. A show of paintings, inspired by paintings in the National Galleries.

Refreshingly frank (and politically devastating) from a Labour MP about her party’s priorities in Scotland:
“Only last week, we (@ScottishLabour) suspended two Labour councillors in Edinburgh because they weren’t prepared to vote for the Tories over the SNP”
Siobhain McDonagh let’s the cat out the bag. Anas Sarwar pretends to despise Tories when in fact he’s collaborating with them to lock out SNP. @ScottishLabour #politicslive

@SarahBoyak (in a car-crash interview with zero substance) said #ScotLabour wanted to engage in dialogue with the #SNP
Same day her leader down south says exact opposite!

Good thread from @StephenGethins . Important to remember that the only democratic mandates that seem to be questioned in UK media are those which reflect decisions of which UK govt disapproves. Its own mandate is taken as given, even if only 35% voted for its majority (as in 2005)

Just for clarity, I was referring mainly to the second question. Why do supposedly ‘balanced’ broadcasters allow overwhelmingly right wing newspapers to set the news agenda?
