Capitalist firms, left to their own devices, have the "obligation to serve the interests" of their customers--or they go out of business. The state, left to its own devices, has no such direct check on its activities--& often fools voters that it IS serving them, when it isn't.
The state, however imperfectly it represents the collective will of the people, does not necessarily intervene because capitalism has failed. It intervenes because capitalism, left to its own devices, has no obligation to serve the interests of the society it depends upon.

The core argument of critical race theory is quite literally that any bad thing Blacks or other minorities do is white people's fault. The core argument of later-wave feminism is quite literally that any bad thing women do is men's fault. I can point you to chapter and verse here, if you want - i.e., Kendi (2020: 12). These are stupid and untenable ideologies.

"300,000 years in which we've had societies with no poverty" @JohnRad15, only true if the hunter-gather "societies" of 300,000 years ago that had to scavenge for food had a different official statistical definition of "poverty" than we do today!
300,000 years in which we've had societies with no poverty, yet here we are in capitalism with most people in poverty. It is not a pinnacle of progress. It is a captured state by a parasite class.

Colonialism was, in fact, often a good thing. BUT, it's worth noting that *Zimbabwe* is so often used to argue for "inevitable post-colonial collapse into barbarism" because it would...really make no sense to use Botswana, Singapore, Jamaica, Egypt, Bermuda/Bahamas/Barbados, Hong Kong, Kenya, India, Indonesia, etc - or ftm the United States. Those are all just sort of countries now.

🔥 JUST IN: THOUSANDS of Americans are now saying they will be buying Red Baron pizzas and supporting the business after the company PUBLICLY BACKED the hardworking patriot instigated in a now-viral video "He’s still here. He’s got a fan club. Including us." HUNDREDS of thousands of dollars have now been raised for him as well 🙏🏻 This is America! 🇺🇸

9 YEARS AGO TODAY: RUSSELL WILSON AND DESHAUN WATSON PUT ON ONE OF THE GREATEST QB SHOOTOUTS IN #NFL HISTORY. Wilson threw for 452 yards and 4 TDs, while rookie Watson threw for 402 yards and 4 TDs. Seattle won an absolute thriller, 41-38. LEGENDARY.

Government ruined healthcare. Government ruined college. Government ruined housing. Stop expecting government to solve the problems they created in the first place.

Thomas Sowell: A gov't agency has 2 tasks: building statues of Benedict Arnold & providing life-saving medications to children. If this agency's budget were cut, it would cut the life-saving medications for children. Cutting the program people care about creates public outrage & pressure on legislators to restore the budget, while cutting the useless program would just show that the agency can do without the money.
Amusing exchange, but both arguments dodge the substance. Market failure and government failure often share the same root: unpredictable, poorly designed frameworks. In my work, rule clarity matters far more than ideological labels.

Libertarians are not fighting the left hard enough. The right wants to make your avocados more expensive. The left wants you dead.
At @UTSA for Pick Up the Mic, a student read a poem celebrating the assassination of Charlie Kirk with such glee, then told me I was brave to be out here without my neck covered. I told her I’d pray for her. This is the climate. We pick up the mic anyway.

Czechoslovakia, 1945: the Nazis are gone, the war’s over, people are dancing in the streets. For a few years it actually feels like freedom. Didn’t last. By 1948 the Communist Party, backed by Moscow, staged a coup and took the whole country. Then came 40+ years of one-party rule: secret police, show trials, censorship, closed borders, empty store shelves. It took until November 1989, the Velvet Revolution, students leading the way, for the country to actually be free again.
